SAVANNAH, Ga. - Two partially nude animal rights activists said they were surprised to be arrested Thursday during a demonstration in downtown Savannah.

Lisa Franzetta, 30, of Oakland, Calif., and Kayla Rae Worden, 42, of Hendersonville, N.C., were dressed in thong underwear, pasties and faux-leather shoes.

They carried a banner reading "Pleather Your Tootsies."

The pair protested the killing of animals for leather goods on behalf of the group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, based in Norfolk, Va.

Shortly after noon, the activists were handing out pamphlets on the southwest corner of Bull and Broughton streets when they were taken into police custody.

Sgt. Mike Wilson, the spokesman for the Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police, said the women were arrested for having a lewd appearance.

"They were just in their underwear," he said. "So that would qualify as lewd appearance."

Both were taken to the Chatham County jail for the misdemeanor.

The group expected to take their campaign to Atlanta, and Columbia and Charleston, S.C.

The good looking ones in these cases are usally hired models. The PeTa babes are usually uglier than a mud fence.

Here in the number one PeTa babe - Ingrid Newkirk. A "two bagger" if I ever saw one..

We had a peta protester in Burlington VT this past winter. Man, she was hotter than a pet coon.

Middle of winter and she's dressed in a mini-skirt, bikini top, gloves, elf boots and a Santa hat. Standing on the corner of church and main street she was so hot she was melting the snowbanks around her.

For some reason, I can't for the life of me recall what the sign she was holding said.

Thanks for posting this Woody. Stories like this just continue to prove how far from reality these people really are. Unfortunately there seem to be people who take them seriously.

While I have no love for PETA I do think that the reason for the arrest was extreem.

uh, yeah..

I'd say that allowing people to run around in their skivies is "lewd".

They also had on only "pasties" on their breasts.

This is in the public.

I don't think that is appropriate at all..

Missed the "pasties" part. But what's the dif. between skivvies and a bikini (providing it's not one of those micro ones.) if the vitals are covered?

Except in Florida I never see any bikini gals running around down town either, do you?

This was thong panties and pasties. I know I would be irate if I was downtown with one of my young grandchildren and saw that sight.

One can expect to see that on a beach somewhere (even some of those have a no thongs rule), but not downtown..
