Hello all by the numbers of recent posts > sounds like everyone is keeping busy !

I was watching all sorts of birds hit feeders during a recent BBQ at a friends house > prompted me to dig out these humming bird pictures ..

Randy takes a break from reno’s and picks up some lunker Walleye .

Monica ( VixChix ) puts in a full day chasing turkeys and although we had some close encounters ( closest was a jake at 12 feet and a hen at 5 feet ! ) > no closing shots were taken . I did get some cool pictures and secured permission on another property ( a real nice turkey/deer potential farm about 1 hour from home ) .

All and all a great day out and I can say with some certainty > Monica puts her time in when she is out hunting ! We hunted 4 farms total and had turkey contacts at each farm … Had a traditional Truckstop Dinner on the way home and caught up on old hunting stories !

Good Luck to all that are chasing turkeys till our Ontario May 31st closing day > Have Fun / Hunt Safe and take lots of pictures !

I am very grateful to have the opportunity to hunt with Rick in some of his great properties!

In spite of not being in the woods at dawn (I babysit kids before school) we still had turkey encounters at each location!

At the first location I set up in the woods overlooking a clearing and immediately had gobbles from two opposite directions. One came in FAST and before I knew it there was a jake behind me in the field.

I managed to turn around without spooking him. By that time he was coming right towards me at just a few yards. I decided not turn down any legal bird so I raised the gun to shoot. I had to crouch and stoop to get clear of branches but I had a clear head on shot. As I pulled the trigger he was still walking straight towards me. Somehow I missed! I took a second shot as he was running off but missed again.

My first miss on a live animal. Argh! I'm still trying to figure out what part I messed up. I held below the head. I wasn't using a scope. Perhaps because I crouched I didn't get a proper cheek weld? It was sobering and something I won't soon forget.

Rick was awesome about it and didn't dwell on my mess up. He kept doing his best to put me on a bird until we ran out of legal time.

Between farms Rick shared stories behind the photos he's posted here and other places - so many incredible adventures! Rick - I think you should write a book!

What a great day all around! I loved every moment of being out in the fields and in the woods! Thanks again Rick!!!

Thanks all .... and no problem Monica , you are welcome anytime . Good company for the day and you hold your own at any of the set ups , so basically I'm just driving , dropping in on old farmer acquaintance’s and getting some cool pictures when the opportunity arises .

Right now I'm up late listening to "The Spirit of Dawson" CFYT 106.9FM: Dawson City Community Radio .

My daughter and her boyfriend are in he Yukon for summer work again this year ... they decided to volunteer for a late night DJ team session ... It's pretty cool listening to your kid live stream on the radio for the first time ! ... They sound a little nervous but are doing a good job so far !

And yep .... as Madmax2 pointed out > Should be a fun hunt till seasons end if you are prepared to combat the blood thirsty Ontario mosquitoes !

PS : Hug your kids often ! … They grow up too fast and when they are older and away from home > you will miss the heck out of them ! > Here are some pic’s from the last time we visited my daughter on one of her Yukon adventures .
