Hernia

Post by Dale »

Been almost four weeks since the hernia operation. I must say that the first week was less than fun. Feeling better now all the time. Doc said no lifting for six weeks. I feel like I could put the string on my Exomax and try to cock it. But I do NOT want a repeat of said operation and the first week. Pluss I want to be well healed for deer season in October. I miss my crossbow.

That is the exact reason I first purchased a cocking aid. I was not only able to shoot again but was able to kill a deer because I could cock the bow. Now I use it for string changes and twisting up strings mostly. It comes in handy.

If you create internal pressure (valsalva) you will likely blow out the stitches he put in you. If he repaired it with mesh (for men it's likely) it will hurt like holy hell and will continue to hurt past the 6 weeks. He pulled two pieces of muscle together and stitched it closed. If you don't allow the muscle to heal... well it's not fun. If you use nicotine it will slow the healing process even more as nicotine interferes with collagen formation which is what binds tissue together making healing take longer.

You can have someone else load your crossbow and shoot it that way...

Just some friendly advice

X2! I've been there also. The Surgeon made sure I would be a good boy and follow his instructions by showing me a photo of what a retorn hernia looks like. Good luck with the healing Dale.

Hang in there, you got time. Just heal up right, that's the main thing!

CrazyAce gave some solid advice there. I had a mesh inserted during my incisional hernia repair at Shouldice in Ontario ( http://www.shouldice.com ). It will hurt for the first few weeks, then it will die out. It’s best not to take on a stress in that area for the first few months. A torn hernia can get real nasty. It’s always better to use a hernia belt for all activities that cause strain the lower abdomen.

And Don’T SMOKE.

I had an inguinal hernia repaired 6 years ago. A good family friend is the chief of surgery at the local hospital and he got me into a laproscopic clinic. Using the laproscopic method I was cleared for return to most activities in 7 days and full return to heavy lifting in 14 days.

Not sure how common this method is but it sure worked for me. Have not had any pain since about 5 days after the surgery and in terms of activity it is as if the hernia never happened.

Good luck and follow whatever advice your doc gives you.

I had mine done (inguinal) in April and it was not fun. The next day sitting on the throne almost put me back in.
Might have been the meds, not real sure. But I broke out in a profuse sweat and started vomiting which was pretty severe pain. wife wanted to call 911 but I wouldn't let her. Crawled from the bathroom to the bed and passed out for about an hour and felt better when I woke up. She called the Dr office while I was sleeping and they said if it happened again to get me there ASAP. They were concerned that I might have torn my stitches while vomiting, and I guess they were also concerned that my body might have been rejecting the mesh. Luckily it didn't happen again. Getting out of my chair in front of the TV was pretty rough the first week. Before I went in I split a bunch of firewood into kindling size pieces so that I could keep a fire going in the wood stove. about a week after surgery I decided to throw a couple bigger pieces in (thought I was getting better) but dropped the second piece when I felt a sharp pain
georgiaboy loaned me a C2 for a months so that I could practice with my M310. I also picked up a Vixen to use but by the time I could cock it with the rope I was cocking the 310. Listen to your Dr and take time to let your body heal. My final visit after 6 weeks he released me to go back to work... with no restrictions :?: But he also told me to use my head as it can take up to a year to heal completely. I listened to what he said and still watch what I do..... I certainly don't want to go through that again!

Well, been six weeks since hernia operation. Used the stringing aid and rope cocker and put the string back on my Exomax. That all went pretty well. I didn't fully cock it though. Felt good just getting it back out of it's case again.
