Is there currently a dialog between Excalibur and the MFFP (ministry of fauna / hunting in Québec)?
Is there anything the community can do to help?

I believe that Peter said that they are working with the Quebec government.

What can you do is put pressure on your elected officals and everyone else in the government connected to hunting. Start an email compain explainting how their rule is unjust and out of touch with real archery definations.

Ask everyone in government how & who to contact to to get this corrected. Get others to do the same. The more people trying to get this changed, the more of a chance that the government might listen. If there is orginizations like the OFAH (in Ontario) try and get them to help you.

I had requested a confirmation on the status of the Micro 335 directly from the MFFP. I guess I'll reply to that and ask where to direct a complain to. That should be a good start.

It would be nice to have an official update on this from Excalibur as well to know what is being done (by all parties) to remedy this situation.

For those interested, here is the email I sent (french alert ;-) ) on their comments section:

I hope more people can send something similar. If enough people complain, they might have to do something about it.

Happy dance time, the regs where changed today
Crossbows with a torque of at least 54 kg (120 lb.) and equipped with a safety catch The bolt must have a length of at least 40 cm (16 in.), including the tip
finaly makes sense, now. You used to be able to use a youth 130lbs Barnett Recruit for big game but not a 270lbs Micro because of a 3 inch power stroke difference.

Excalibur Marketing Dude wrote:We have been working with the Quebec Government to fix this issue. For some reason they want to measure the power stroke differently than every other province or state. In Ontario we measure the power stroke to the front of the limb the same way they do compound bows.

Its really a crazy regulation. They should not be regulating the power stroke but rather the kinetic energy the crossbow creates with the recommended minimum arrow weight so they can assure an ethical kill. I think they are trying to restrict the pistol crossbows which they should but they need to better understand crossbow dynamics. A Micro makes enough energy to take down a bunch of deer if you line them up properly. :D

It's almost as crazy as the minimum draw weight laws some states and provinces have. Somebody has convinced these people that a crossbow with more than a 200 lb. draw weight will be pretty much a gun, they forgot about the different crossbow designs. When Governments set hunting equipment regulations they should research the topic more or consult real experts so the laws make sense.

This becomes very frustrating for crossbow manufacturers!

Wait until they try to make AIRBOW legal here in pa..Crossbow industry should do everything to stop this ...
