Which kind of case do you use for your Excalibur?

Post by SLP82 »

Ok, so I am very torn here. A part of me wants to get a short assault rifle case to easily store my Excalibur Grizzly during the off season by taking the limbs off and minimizing room taken up... but at the same time, I am a little worried about removing and tightening the bolts over and over again on the Grizzly's synthetic frame. Also if I get a traditional crossbow case that doesn't require tear down, do you guys do a semi-rigid case, or a hard case? Please let me know which case you use and why. Thanks!

Well you an'it gonna save any space with a traditional case. If fact it will take up even more room. You are not going to harm your Grizzly smf by breaking it down. I have an Ibex and don't even consider that an issue. When i travel with mine i use a double rifle case, in and out good to go. But the rest of the time i have my bows hanging proudly on my wall.. Pretty...Pretty...

I see you have a "Plano all weather 36" tactical case". How do you fit both the stock and limbs in there without them rubbing against each other?

Which brand double rifle case did you go with? I like that idea... just looking around quickly, the Condor 36" double rifle case seems to have really good reviews and for $78 seems like a good price. Plus I like all the extra compartments to put the quiver/arrows, broad-heads, wax, cocking aid, extra string, Alan wrenches, etc.

For local travel I just use the excal padded soft case. For air travel I use the Plano Bowmax double bow case. I leave the bow strung but separate the limb/riser assembly from the mainframe and strap everything down. I actually use pieces of the kids swimming noodles that are hollow in the middle. I cut it to the length of the limbs then cut it length ways to fit nicely over each limb before strapping down. Works great and I can pack arrows, binos, rangefinder and tools in with my bow. I even pack some clothes in just to secure everything further.

I use the Matrix Tombstone cases during hunting season while driving to and from my hunting areas. It is a well built semi-soft case. They are really inexpensive on one of the online auction sites too.

I converted a compound hard case for my exocet 200....

Image

I even combined the stirrup into the handle of the case....

Image

how I did it, I just notched the case where it needed it....

Image

mounted an extra quiver block and storage case in there, and I can carry everything I ever could need on any hunt....
exocet 200. STS dampers.
boo string and trigger work.
munch mount quiver mount.
125 gr slick trick magums.
2" blazers on 2117 XX75 w/ brass inserts.

I plucked the foam to fit the stock/rail assembly with scope still on it, then remove the stirrup and lay the riser on top of the center foam. I will post a couple pictures for you tomorrow
