So my Micro tried the Ramcat broadhead today.

Post by Chefrific »

All I can say is YOWZA!!! and BAZINGA!!!

I have been converted. These things are amazing. I'm shooting 100 grain Ramcat on a 16.5" Black Eagle Zombie with 92grain insert and plastic knock. Total arrow weight is 375 grains.

These bad boys are shooting better then any broadhead I've ever shot. Consistent, accurate and chrono says 324fps.

Out to 30, 40, and even 50 yards, these guys were pinpoint accurate and penetrated my reinhart target all the way to the fletchings. :P

They are not the single bevel grind blade version.

Very impressive indeed! I heard they're a hybrid fixed/mechanical. The pics just look mechanical. Did I miss something?

The blades are sharpened on both sides and if for some reason you do not get a pass through the blades will pivot towards the front and cut. Pretty darn cool. Makes them easy to pull out of your target too.

I did have to re-position and tighten the blades between shots into my target. Takes a few seconds and once tightened they are locked in place.
On that note, I should mention that the screws are "communist" and are right to loosen and left to tighten, so that when you tighten them, it pushes the blades down.

I think you'll like them, several of my friends swear by them they're getting great accuracy out to 70 yards with their vertical bows. The only issues have been screws loosening up like you mentioned and a few bent blades. They do cut a nasty hole and leave a good blood trail. Congrats on your arrow/broadhead combination when you have that kind of confidence it makes all the difference.

I had a few Ramcats years ago, but found that they were very loose and rattled a lot. Didn't keep them long. Have they improved that issue?

If you take the little hex key that comes with them and tighten them, they are rock solid. Don't budge.

I did this right out of the package for added insurance. It's after they hit their target that they loosen up, which is the "point" (forgive the pun).

With swept back blades if they were permanently fixed in place they could be considered a "barbed" head, which is not legal everywhere. So they are made such that the blades can swing forward in the case where the arrow stays in the animal. But nothing moves upon impact so for all intents and purposes it is a fixed head.

FWIW, IMO the swept back blades (like the wings on a plane) are why they fly so well.
