I hope this is just a crack in the finish...

Post by Holston »

Been busy this summer, haven't had much chance to shoot.

Got my Matrix out today, was looking over my new string, and noticed that either my finish around the limb tips is cracking on both sides, or the tips are separating.

I hope and pray it's just the finish, because season is just a couple weeks away and I've already put in for vacation.

I had a terrible time taking pictures of this, hope some of you might be able to tell me something from these.

BTW, this bow has never been dry fired, and I've only shot the factory string, bolts that came with it and 150 gr points.

Thanks for any help suggestions.

PS....

It's looks a lot worse in person. Especially on the side with the void in it (first 2 pics above).

Hmmmm, it looks cosmetic to me but let's wait for some of the old timers to chime in.

X-2 looks like the glue has settled and dried. But maybe the old timer's like Paul said will chime in...

Mine did the same thing and was barely a year old. They replaced the limbs

Did the new limbs do the same thing?

Also, what's the procedure for letting "Excalibur" determine if it's cosmetic or failure? Curious because as previously stated, I'm taking vacation in a couple weeks and would hate to miss out.

The limb tips are glued on so there can be glue residue at the joint. Personally I wouldn't worry about that. I just looked at mine and I can see glue at the joint as well. I would be more worried if I couldn't see any glue which might indicate that they didn't apply any. However I am not an expert on these limbs by any means and as others have said some people here have much more knowledge on this issue.

My E-Mag has had similar cracks in the finish for maybe ten years. I sleep well at night.

Top pic is a glue hole, its dried n left that void. If'en you had shown a crack runnin around at least one full side or the tip splitting. I would say repair but going by the pic's it doesn't show me concern. Bottom line is its yer Excal n 2 weeks is plenty of time fer new limb replacements

My 310 has looked like that since I first noticed it about a month after I got it.
As long as the tips are not loose it is purely cosmetic and nothing to worry about.

no worries its just cosmetic. Thats where the excess epoxy sits after the tip is pressed on. Any air bubbles dont last long after they are shot a few times

Shew... thanks for the reassurance.

Kinda caught me off guard and had me worried, especially since my wife and niece occasionally shoot this bow.

I did take the string back off and check and see if anything is loose. All seemed well, I guess it's just the glue on the exterior cracking.
