HURON COUNTY, MI (WNEM) -
An Ohio man died after falling from his tree stand in Michigan.

According to the Michigan Department of Natural resources, the 45-year-old man was hunting at the Verona State Game Area in Huron County, just six miles east of Bad Axe.

The man had shot a deer and unfastened his safety harness to climb down from his tree stand.

He was found lying next to a tree.

The man’s hunting partner called emergency services.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

....just terrible news as it always is when we hear of another brother's death from hunting and tree stand usage....

....how many more times must it be stressed for those that hunt from an elevated perch..."stay connected from the time your feet leave the ground UNTIL the time your feet touch back down after the hunt is completed!"

....I come across way to many tree stand hunters who boast about not using any kind of restraint system because it is too cumbersome...really, you must be kidding...real men use a restraint harness because they love their families!!!

....prayers and thoughts go out for his family...at 45 years old most likely there are children involved and the thought of them being fatherless hits home....

Horrible news, safety has to always be the top priority! If you don't do it for yourself, do it for your family please.

was it a climbing tree stand or a ladder type...there has to be a big difference in safety...also a big difference if you stand or sit to shoot.....norm

i must admit when i was younger and more agile there was no such thing as safety gear. i'm lucky/was . . .and sometimes lady luck jus walks away. and as iv'e got older i like the comfort of a ground blind.

my thoughts go out to the family and friends.

Ladder stands are a bit more difficult to use a harness when climbing, but there are methods that can be used.
I gotta admit that I don't use a harness when climbing up or down, but attach it as soon as I get into my stand.
Prayers being offered for family.

Ladder stands are the easiest to use a safety vest and 30' lifeline. Your attached to the tree going up and down. How much safer can they make it?

.........Brother Ron.....that is where the life line comes in! You are attached all of the way up and all of the way down!

Most hunters won't spend the extra money to be safe. One guy I hunt with won't wear a vest!
