Two or Four Blade COC Broadheads?

Post by ricochet »

Hi all,

I have been watching this forum for a while, but I think this is my first post here. Great site with lots of info. My question is, I am switching to Magnus stingers for my compound bow and was hoping to use the same on my Walmart special xbow. Before I go buy $60 in broadheads, I was wondering if I might get better flight resuts from the two blade or the four blade on the xbow, or is there likely to be no practical difference? I am shooting a barnett revolution at 320+ fps. Also, if I get the four blade, can I leave the bleeders off and make it a two blade (two options with one head, slight weight change aside), or does the design of the four blade require the bleeders to keep it together. Thanks from down here in GA.

ricochet, I prefer and do use slick trick 4 bladed broadheads 125 gr. in my Paradox and 100 gr. in the Vixen, they fly as well as any head that I've used. Why spend $60 for heads when slicks are $20 for a set of 3that are as good as any out there.

Digger,

Thanks for the reply. I had looked at the quick tricks based on all the chatter about them on this site, but I know of no dealers or catalog houses that carry them so would have to order from the website and wait on the back orders. The stingers are about the same price $21 for 3, I was going to get 100s for my compound and 125s for the xbow and maybe an extra 3 pack for one or the other. I dont have enough experience with the xbow to know if using the 100gr heads is a no-no from an arrow weight or FOC perspective. Just going by the mfgs recommendation for point weight. Just looking to try someting different, and since I only practice with broadheads also wanted something I could just resharpen when season opens. But Im open to suggestions.

ricochet Diggers suggestion is a real good one, back orders are nill so far. replacement blades are 9.95 fer three broad heads allthough they can be sharpened. They do now come in 100gr and 125gr, and maybe some other weights as I have not been checking of late.

Does anyone know of dealers in Canada who stock this product?

For larger big game such as elk or moose, I presume that the 125grain would be best?

What would the best carbon bolts be to match with the 125's?

bj carried them earlier, you'll have to contact him Hi5

ricochet, makes no difference what broadhead you use as long as you keep over the minimum weight of 350 gr or 325 gr for the Vixen.

Mine are on Gold Tip Laser lls, 100s &125 gr heads.

Question for you Digger. The black box or case your bolts are in, is it specifically made for xbow bolts, or is it a spare case you custom designed to carry spare bolts?

If it is for xbow bolts, where did you buy it, how much, ect. ect. ?

Thank You

Grey Owl, You can get the boxes at Canadian Tire for under $15. I cut some strips of foam rubber for that one and took the bolt holders out of an old hard case for a vert bow. Box is perfect for bolts its 22"x6"x3".
bj uses them also, he has at least three of them. they are just utility boxes.

A little confused Digger. You said you cut some strips of foam rubber, and took the bolt holders out of an old hard case from a vert. bow. Now in the picture, I see only some grey foam with slits in them, with the bolts in place. Is that the strips of foam rubber or bolt holders from the old vert. case?

Also where likely can I buy the grey foam that I see holding the bolts?

Oops, the one in the picture is from the old hard case like the one below. The other case has egg shell strips cut the same size. I got the piece of scrap foam from Home hardware.
