2-Person Treestand Back Rest Question

Post by TheBig1 »

Alright folks, I went back to my thread earlier from last week and read everyone's recommendations again. To which I truly appreciate everyone's replies. Unfortunately I'm not able to get the nice comfy treestands. But I did find a Big Game Guardian 2 Person Ladder Stand for $89.99 at Dick's Sporting Goods because they'll honor Bass Pro Shops flier and then I also have a $10 coupon for Dick's. So needless to say I'll be going with this stand.

One thing that I do not like about this stand is that it does not have a back rest on it. I was thinking about putting some plywood on it but other than that, does anyone have another idea of a back rest that I could put on this?

What I was thinking was plywood to size, drill holes in the plywood around the edges and zip tie the plywood to the metal rails.

Ideas are greatly appreciated.

Any ideas other than plywood that someone's used in the past?

I have always simply used the tree for a back rest in a ladder stand.

Would a stadium style backrest hook on to the seat?

I understand Rob, but this is a 2-Person treestand. I'd like some sort of cover from behind but even more important than that, I'd rather not sit there all day with that bar digging into my shoulder blades. If it were a single person stand that's exactly what I'd do, just use the tree.

Calhoun, I think that's a good idea but I don't think it would work. My idea right now is to take a thin piece of plywood, cut it to fit, paint it black, brown, and green, drill holes around the edges, and zip tie it to the metal rail. I'm just trying to find out if anyone has ever done anything different that would be better.

Your idea sounds like it would be a good one. Cheap, effective, and removable so when you take the stand down it doesn't have the added weight (like if you screwed the plywood in). I will tell you that I made a seat cover for a 2 man stand out of plywood and I put some high density foam on it and covered it with outdoor fabric like you would get for an awning, then sprayed it down with a Teflon type spray to waterproof it as best as I could. It worked well and was comfortable, but then the squirrels found it. I'm sure they slept warm and well that winter but the ground around my stand looked like it had snowed. Won't do that again, simple is better if you're leaving it out somewhere IMO.

Thanks Coon, I guess that is the best way to go for now since no one else has a better idea. Just brought it home. Bought two extra ratchet straps for it too.

Could you use some nylon straps to make a webbing to rest your back against ? Been thinking of doing it to mine . Run some horizontal and some vertical ?????

That too is an idea Mike. Although I haven't even sat in it yet, I fear that the top rail on the back will dig into my shoulder blades all day. I think that I need to get that covered with something.

I'm using a two man stand also so I know exactly what your working on . I put a piece of the foam insulation made for air conditioner lines all the way around my rail to help my back from digging into the rail and also to lay the bow over when aiming .

I like that idea Mike. I might try something similar but with that hot water pipe round insulation and zip tie it all the way around.

That's how I attached mine also with zip ties . I also cut a piece of rubber matt to fit the mesh bottom of the stand . If you have to cock your bow in the stand its much quieter and isn't grinding your stirrup against the metal bottom .

I think the plywood zip tied to the back rail would work fine and be inexpensive too. Should increase your comfort while in the stand too. :)

I have used zip ties for various projects over the years and find at some point the UV rays cause deterioration after a few years  ... keep an eye on them.

X2 on that. I think the black zip ties are for outdoor use but I'm not certain on this. It should state on the package.
