Can't get in the mood to hunt this year

Re: Can't get in the mood to hunt this year
I find as I increase in age (49 now) I like the cold less and less. Was fortunate to harvest early this year and now I am hunting with my son so I can teach him what I've learned over the years. If it wasn't for him I think my gear would be going away until Oct 2016.
Passed on a young buck at 30 yards last night hoping it would make its way to my son but also thinking there is no place for greed in sustainable hunting so I left him on the hoof~!
Just my opinion from up here in the cheap seats.
Cheers
Robin

Long standing tradition says you go out .
Don't have to be gung ho but go out.
Sometimes once out again it clicks in.
Or maybe just a nice outing watching the world from a different perspective again.
Usually something not encountered everyday turns up eventually.
Then there are the more familiar sites or landmarks revisited again with their attendant memories..
Or a new site for a change of scenery.

My situation is just the opposite and it's driving me up the wall. If your health is good be thankful.

Now that's funny, Derrick.racking up points wrote:You need viagra for huntile difficulty. I don't know what that's like because all I want to do is hunt and I just don't have time for it. Maybe you should talk to your doctor, but beware, I heard it's dangerous for hunts lasting more than 4 hrs.

Re: Can't get in the mood to hunt this year
I'm kinda in the same boat as you are, at least with the "loss of interest". Over the coarse of the last few years I have lost approx 700 acres of private ground that I had hunted my whole life.
Either from the land being sold or being handed down to family members who don't allow hunting. As of now I have 20 acres left that I can hunt, I am verey thankfull for these acres but with this land kinda just sitting idle and 10 of the 20 acres being just a weed field it is hard to make something happen with archery equipment.
In the last two seasons I have seen a total of 11 deer total, in two seasons combined! With my work schedule it's hard to even know when I can get in the woods, next year I'm gonna try to get into a lease of some kind, or ask a few other property owners close by for permission, but most of the time people don't allow hunting due to bad past expieriences with slob hunters.
As much as I hate to admit it, it seems our way of life is dwindleing fast in some areas, and with costs of liscences, bows/crossbows ect, it's just a killer to spend the money knowing that a fella mite not have a place to use any of it!

Re: Can't get in the mood to hunt this year
If u just hunt to kill deer it can sometimes just become the same old thing. Cause really, except 4 really old mature bucks, killing deer is not all that hard. I've killed a bunch, yet every time a 60 pound doe starts walking my way i'm worried she will hear my heat beat and run away. Yep i love killing deer but i also love the woods..the smell...the leaves falling...no one calling me on my phone asking dumb questions...squirrels, raccoon's, crows, blue jays, geese, turkeys, rain, snow, being cold, .....we all love shooting a deer, but deer hunting is so much more than .... shooting a deer!
Please just go out 1 more time and consider the entire experience.

Re: Can't get in the mood to hunt this year
I have the. Opposite problem. I really want to get out to bow hunt. However here in Southern Ontario we only get one deer tag. I am saving it for our black powder hunt week of Nov 16th. If I don't fill it I can bow hunt after that week until the end of the season. This wait to hunt is killing me. It would be ok if I could fish but the winds and days off are not lining up!! Oh well honey do list is done and I am ready. 2 more weeks!!!!!!
A touch of frost has heightened your awareness and your heart steadily beats in anticipation. Your senses are suddenly alert to the movement on the forest floor and you realize that the moment of truth is at hand.

I've had years like that. I've had to force myself to get out. Some years it was because of other people hunting the same property which made me feel unsafe. More recently it's been because the small local property doesn't hold deer and after weeks of not seeing deer it loses it's appeal.
We were gifted a couple of game cams last year andthat has certainly helped. Nice to know if, where, and when they're passing through - helps to have hope.
It's also helped to add an extra stand - more variety!
Most of all I've found that if my objective is to go out, enjoy the fresh air, spend time alone with my thoughts, with any possible deer as a bonus, then it's always a successful hunt.
