I can't reach the trigger

Post by darwal44 »

Hi, my name is Dennis from Peru. Recently I got back the trigger I sent to Excalibur to repair. I installed the trigger in the crossbow but something strange happened: Now I can't pull the string all the way up to reach the trigger. I have cocked this crossbow more than a hundred times without any problem. This is the first time I pull the string without to be able to reach the trigger, no matter how hard I pull.

What could be happening? The trigger is well installed and I'm using the cocking aid rope.

Make sure your safety is off.

The safety is in fire position, but the string doesn't even reach the trigger. I don't know what could be happening. I have cocked this crossbow many times without any problem and the repaired trigger Excalibur sent back to me is well installed.

Make sure the latches are in the upward position, not down blocking the string. May have to pull the trigger and push them up manually. :)

I own an Exomax and I think the trigger is the same for all models.

If it's not a simple fix as the safety left on:

If trigger claws will not go up to accept the string then check the bolts you removed/installed on arrow retainer or adf and scope mount. Some are longer than others and it may cause interference. Recheck all screws that you had to take out to remove trigger assembly!

Going by my memory, which is fuzzy at best

I didn't installed the arrow retainer yet, it's the trigger only, and the claws are up. It is the string that doesn't reach the trigger by inches. I'll try to cock it again.

I'm not an Excalibur professional but I had the same thing happen when I first tried the destringer. So in remembering this, my question is, how is your brace height, is it too tight?

Much like when I tried it with the destringer I had it on too tight and I couldn't cock it enough to reach the trigger without loosening it.

Now then, get your equipment, your quiver and bow, and go out to the open country to hunt some wild game for me.

Well, I think my brace height is tight. Between the string and the bumpers there is more than a centimeter. But in the past I've cocked the crossbow with the same brace height.

Hi Dennis,

I am new here so bear with me as others have far more knowledge in these bows. I recently took my trigger out of my Grizzly, cleaned some rust off the trigger internals, reinstalled the trigger and had no problems. Which makes me wonder. Did anything else change? As an example, did you change strings and the new one is too short ?

I guess what model Excal do you have and how long is the string ?

try just untwisting the string a few twists . I had that happen to me a couple of times until I caught on .

sorry, mis-read the issue
Is your rope cocker rope looped behind the trigger unit in the groove of the stock?

By chance is the arrow retainer bent down into the arrow groove enough that the string is going over it? I know it sounds dumb, but everything else seems OK so far!!
