First Muzzleloader kill

Post by Reinyrooster »

Started this muzzleloader/shotgun week nicely......my hunting buddy and I got set-up in our ground blind well before sunrise Monday morning. Once the sun came up we heard some shotgun blasts here and there.....at 8:20 suddenly this young buck pops into view heading straight toward us along the edge of the field...we're only about 8' feet off the field edge. He's only about 2o yards away when he sees me scrambling as I grab the weapon and try to get aimed.....he turns tail-up but only goes about 20 yards and stops and turns broadside to see what the commotion was about....that was his fatal mistake....dropped him in his tracks....unfortunately I spined him so I finished him off quickly with a second shot. He's not big but will be good eating. I am a meat hunter....big racks are just a nice bonus if they happen.
Soon as I figure out how to post pictures, I will....his right antler was normal but the left one had two small main beams...one that went forward and the other that started from the same place and pointed to the back.....never seen anything like that.
Anyway...the four year drought is now officially over......two deer down and pics of two nice bucks on a different property that we just got hunting permission on this year.......going to go look for him next week.
