M380 Scores Again

Post by SEC-ond 2 none »

Got to my food plot at 1:30pm. Got settled in the hunting house and at 2:30 saw a buck step out of the woods at upper end of plot. I ranged it at 140 yds. with my r.f. He crossed the plot (40yds wide) and went back into the woods.
At 3:15 a very small button buck came into the plot and begin feeding. At 4:15 a doe and an 8 pt. came into the upper end of plot. I ranged the buck at 125 yds. and the doe was 139 yds. I used my bleat call and got the bucks attention. I made 4 grunts with my Wabi grunt call. He begin to slowly move towards me. He stopped and looked back at the doe which was feeding on turnip tops and winter wheat. Give another bleat and the doe begin to shorten the distance also. My heart was pounding and I got blurred vision. I'm 64 yrs. old and I haven't been this excited about a hunt in a long time. Buck Fever.
I give him 2 more grunts and I guess he thought the little button was grunting at him. H got to within 46 yds. and stepped to the edge of the woods on the left side of plot and begin rubbing and thrashing bushes. The button vacated the plot and the doe was still moving my way but went to the tree line on the right side and she stopped and was staring at the buck as he begin moving across to the right. the doe begin to move towards me and I made more grunts. the buck than turned and chased the doe to the left side and she went up the hill. I got aggressive on the grunt call (Thanks Wabi) and he stopped and looked my way. He than begin to walk at the edge of the left side of plot. I had ranged landmarks earlier and when he got behind the short stump at 32 yds. I bleated with my voice and he stopped. i think i "Pulled" the trigger instead of squeezing it. The Zombie w/100 gr. Slick Trick hit where i was aiming and the buck took off up the side of the hill, he stopped, reared up on his hind legs and fell over backwards and did not move.
I went to where he was standing when i shot and the blood trail begin at yds.
Took a couple of pictures and went to work with the gutting.
I got to use a new gadget called the "Butt Out". That thing worked great.
If any one is on the fence about the Excalibur Matrix 380, you owe it to yourself to shoot it. It has Extreme accuracy and power and Very, Very fast.
Am i still excited about this hunt ? Yes i certainly am. Almost as excited when i went on my First date with my wonderful wife of 33 yrs.
Sorry, i don't have photo bucket and i can't post pictures.
I will have to look for my arrow tomorrow but i think it got buried in the leaves on the hillside. Good hunting to all and BE SAFE.

Happy Trails

The day I no longer get crazy excited when it's time to close the deal is the day I give it up. Thanks for sharing such a fantastic hunt. Congratulations on your deer! :D

Congratulations on a successful hunt. I also own a Matrix 380 and harvested a doe Sunday evening so I would agree about the Matrix 380 being awesome.

Thanks all. Well today I'm down in my back but it will get better. First 380 buck for me. Not the biggest buck but he was old. Teeth worn down.

A special THANK YOU to SummitSetter for posting my pictures.
