Big shootin shack nanny.

Post by RexKay »

Went up Friday after work.I sat in a ladder stand on the east side ofmy neighbors 73 acre down bean field across the rd. I really haven't been seeing any movement last few weekends since the guns started booming. My nieghbors been glassing the fields from the back porch and started seeing some deer coming out to feed the day prior. So sitting in ladder stand looking to the west I see 4 deer file out south of the shootin shack 300 yds away. Darn. Wrong stand again... Lookin north 8 more pop out of tilled corn...I look east on another neighboring lot and see 2 more...14 deer!!! Just a little out of my comfort range..still a nice mild sunny windless night in stand seeing deer felt like October again..great hunt...So cut some wood on Saturday morning..burned some brush and cleaned up the yard a bit pondering where to sit for the afternoon. So I bundled up and shouldered the 99$ CVA .45cal to the shootin shack. After an hour seen a flock of turkeys file out of the woods..42 total..hens an youngs..but lots :)

Looked south a bit later seen young mom doe with button fawn about 50 yds away feeding and heading slowly east. Doe keeps lookin into SW direction into woods the whole time..so I wait...and wait...and wait, losing light fast, but still had action even if no shot. Then they started filing out. 5 more deer emerge from the thick stuff to feed. I park my but on the floor and got the CVA on the low cut window sill. I zoom to 9x to scope each critter. They approx 120yd to SE as I'm hangin out south window. Not a horn 1 on any of EM. But they looked delicious as I decided the shoot deer #3. Fire, smoke and 7 white flags a flyin, I felt good about shot. Text my neighbor I saw 7 and shot..he sat up front saw zilch.
We met back at the house had coffee and got his bike fired up.
Rode out to impact site. I searched the thicket line right to an open run trail and seen a drop. I yell to Chris ,my neighbor, she's hit. As I'm seeing steady but small drops of blood she's only about 40yds in thick stuff as I laid my eyes on a whopper of a doe!!
