Not a crossbow kill but it's a coyote kill :)

Post by fratri »

With a light dusting of snow and no geese flying I decided to dusk off my coyote gear and do a little coyote hunting this morning. I got to the farm at first light, setup, placed my e-caller/decoy about 35 yds out, got comfortable then let things settle down for a few mintues. Started off with a few dying rabbit screams….waiting a few mintues tried it again….turned on my ecaller and had it playing a soft dying rabbit sound while I screamed out with my hand calls. Kept this up for about 20 minutes before I notice this dark object in the field over my right shoulder. I lost sight of him a couple of times as he was coming across the field but he finally crest the hill exposing himself. I let the decoy and ecaller do the work for me. He was pulled right into the decoy. As I was looking at him through my scope I could tell he wasn’t a very nice looking coyote. I ended up “wolfing” him at 45 yds, he stopped and I let the 55 gr .223 bullet fly. He did a couple of spins before falling over. Not a big coyote but certainly an ugly one.
Enjoy the pics…

Nice job wackin' that coyote fratri. I like your setup and your ambush/hide site. Have you been out much for coyote this year?

I'm seeing way to many coyotes at my uncle's farm this year and plan on trying to thin out the pack in the new year once deer season ends.
