Arrow wraps? Anyone

Post by Bcwn »

In an effort to keep my zombies at 18" I've ordered 20" with110 inserts. My plan is to strip the vanes, have 2" cut off the back and wrap them with arrow wraps. I'm guessing the deck will scratch the wrap on the bottom, but will it damage it to the point of coming off?

If you want to use some wraps, get them from One stringer, and go double dog. That is a clear wrap that you put over the wraps so the target, and rail won't muck them up. Also, why don't you buy shafts cut to length?

I gather from what you're saying that you're planning on buying the .003 Zombies that come in a box of six?....pre made to 20". It seems that would be a reason to not cut and put your shafts together the correct length. Dan's advice is perfect. Although wraps look beautiful, here's the thing. When you clip a fletch with another arrow, how do you fix it when it's glued to the wrap? When your arrow buries info or through a target and damages the fletching, how do you fix it? Anytime fletching gets damaged and needs to be replaced how do you fix it? Answer: you strip all the vanes AND wraps to replace even one vane. My own personal opinion is that wraps look beautiful! They really look great, but they're purely esthetic and serve no real purpose. The exception may be the reflective wraps but with those I only used 1" attached behind the fletching.

Why not cut 2" off the front and leave the vanes on. It would be easier to reinstall the brass insert then to re & re the vanes.

Yep, the small strip at the end works real nice. I use the reflective wraps for my hunting arrows only. I shoot them once at typical hunting distances, and they go into the quiver. My range arrows are beat up a bit, and usually come from hunting arrows gone bad!

Here is a pic. of what Paul pointed out.

Where can one find the reflective wraps pictured above? I like the idea of a small wrap near the tail.

Bow Hunters Superstore. You have to cut them to fit. They are used for the one pin sights on vertical bows to mark your yardage distances so you can see them in low light.
Made by Cir-Cut # GT-400. Glo-Sight-Tape it's called.

Here is a picture of the package.

Here are some reflective wrapped Zombies, double dogged wraps so they don't get scuffed up.Yes, if you have to strip a vane, you have to strip the wrap as well, but that is a snap. I see where the cost might be a bummer, but still less than a lighted nock!

Very nice Dan! Mine are actually different. I use actual reflective wraps, not glow in the dark. They act like the highway road markers. If it's dark and a light gets anywhere near term they light right up.
....are those SK200 vanes you're using?

Paul, those are Fusion Q2i 2.1" Vanes. On the glo-tape that might be the wrong package. I'll look tonight after work and post it! I think I just stuck the strips in there with the tape.

Here is the stuff. I had to pirate a pic. from the computer screen, but you can find it on Ebay, and many archery stores.

If you cut them to 3/8" wide, and the correct length, more than a dozen. The length is 3.1416 X diameter. (.343" x 3.1416)= 1.078"
