New Matrix 350 w pics & opinion wanted....

Post by Ontario Savage »

Hey guys, been shooting a Phoenix for a while now and while I still love that bow I couldn't resist this new 350....love the mossy oak tree stand camo job and believe i'll like the extra 50fps this fall deer hunting.

I don't have a scope on it as I will be upgrading to most likely a Nikon Bolt.

Would you guys recommend purchasing the anti dry fire scope mount for this bow? From what I heard dry fires were a lot more forgiving on the old style long limbed bows than these new ones? Don't mean to start an argument about that topic on my first post but honestly just asking for opinions. At some point I'd like to add REDS and maybe a boo string. Regardless I'm looking forward to letting some arrows fly. Thx in advance fellas.

I have no adfs on any of my bows not even my micros i am extremely anal about making sure i have a bolt in there and the adf is harder to decock at the end of a hunt. To me making sure a bolt is in there is like making sure you dont stuff a 20 guage shell in your 12 guage.with that said its your call the adf is great insurance and a bow like your 350 will most likely suffer damage if its dry fired. I recently had a month old factory string snap on my 330 the limbs survived fine but the recoil plates bent .an adf would have not helped in this case . But if you forgot to load a bolt one day it will be worth the few dollars and you wont be without it for repairs. Good luck with your bow its sharp looking . the reds are a worthwile option thell quiet it down n possibly lessen the shock of a dryfire . Lbj

As soon as I got mine I put Danny Miller string stops and an ADF on it. This bow actually shoots a tad faster than the Matrix 355. I would not personally put a Nikon or any other scope on it that does not have a speed ring so you can dial it in. I ended up on mine at a 360 FPS setting on a Leupold Crossbones scope. I use an identical scope on my Matrix 330 and it is set on 325. Try out the Dead Zone that comes with it and see if it does not work well first.

Congrats on the nice looking new bow. Like that Mossy Oak Camo. For a few extra bucks I would put an ADF on it. It is like insurance for your bow.

Thanks for all the feedback guys...I've mounted the dead zone scope and I think I will give it a fair try...seems to be a good scope so will hold off on upgrading.

I'd suggest you contact Danny Miller @ Horizontal Archery. Danny's Baby Bumpers are IMO better than the REDS ( I have both) and 1/2 the cost. I think he has the ADF scope mounts cheaper than can be bought directly from Excal. I believe I paid right at $85 for both.

One thing you can be sure of with Danny, He'll most likely steer you away from spending money on anything needlessly,

In the case of rubber string stops and ADF, having both a 355 Matrix and a 335 Micro, I believe in both as cheap insurance to protect a rather hefty investment.

It is not a matter of "if" you have a dryfire. It's a matter of "when". No one is any more anal about checking to see if an arrow is loaded than I am. Even with the ADF I worry about what that dead stop does to my string beneath the serving. As it is, if I do goof at least my limbs are protected. I can always put on a new string for confidence sake. Even with the excellent warranties Excal honors us with it takes time to ship both ways and I'm anal about being with my bows.
