Hello to all cossbow hunters-new to the scene...

Post by Rickster »

Hey guys- you all seem very friendly and helpful; I have been looking at this site for weeks-love it!
Just went to the Oshawa Hunting Heritage Show yesterday and picked up a new Exomag with scope and already tuned her up.
Just need to sight it and practise. BTW- one rep at the show swears by target practice with a broadhead and not field points- Will there be that much of a difference?

You always need to Shoot your Broadheads to be sure, but My Exocet hits the same with both.

Welcome Rickster,

Shoot away with your broadheads ,if you have a target that can take it,
also pick several spots too shoot at or you will be replacing fletchings, and arrows, dont forget that is an excalibur you are shooting,
My Mag, and Max shoot the same, field points and broadheads I shoot wasp boss, very accurate, I have not got too shoot the tricks yet, but as soon as I can get my hands on some I will give them a shot, have fun!!!!!!!!!!!

Big Welcome Rickster, to the forum. Your're lucky to live in Ont. along with half of the forum members. You guys have many 3D shoots down there, a chance to meet other Xbow fanatics.

I definitely will try different targets and shoot even from a new tree stand i bought (may as well have a few dress-rehearsals right, camo outfit included). Do you guys think I should sacrifice one of my new carbon bolts with the wasp (100gr) or just buy another 'practice arrow' with a similar broadhead which may cost less?

You should practice with the broadheads that you intend to use for hunting. If the broadheads have replaceable blades just switch to new ones after practicing with them. Even ones that appear similar may fly dramatically different and you won't know until you shoot the "hunting" broadheads at an animal.

Welcome!

I too should probably introduce myself.

About 6 weeks or so ago I bought an Exomag from Wayne in Huntsville. He was quite helpful and I appreciate him taking the time to go over everything about the x-bow in great detail.

I've been shooting target points but recently I was given some broadheads and bolts. I was told they came from a "friend" of my relative's but I have a suspicion they came from a local shop (hopefully Wayne's). Nonetheless, I've got some Wasp and Magnus Stingers to use this Fall now.

I've been having a blast shooting my Exomag. I find that it's very, very accurate and it was quite easy to get used to.

I took the course to get my PAL this past weekend and will be taking the Hunter's Saftey course in two weeks. I don't have any intention of hunting with a rifle, but took the course anyways.

After the H.S. course I'll be waiting patiently until mid-October when (hopefully) I can find that perfect spot on my property for a nice big buck to come wandering by.

Todd-nice to hear from you. I also took the P.A.L. recently and the Hunter Course in July, in case I switch to a gun later, but if everyone is right, maybe a x-bow is too much fun and I'll never switch......This Exomag is my first weapon of any kind.
Anyway, right now I have to knock on a few farmer's door's near Orangeville to try to get permission to hunt on private land-can't wait 'til Oct! Talk to ya later...
