Got tired of using the old folder and broke down and made myself up a nice fixed blade.
100% hand worked 440c ss blade , pinned and filled , half hard brass , veg tanned leather.
sharper than sharp!!! wheel sharpened.

Looks very nice, now all you need is a bear to test it on.
Good luck on the hunt! Keep us posted!

Absolutely beautiful knife Mark 8) . It seems like we have some multi-talented forum members. Looks like I'll have to find myself a hobby also since I'm not so handy  , perhaps knitting is right up my alley and I could make those hats with the beer caps and labels you use to see back in the 70's. LOL

Beautiful knife!!! Looks like one you can really be proud of and looks like its going to stand up to some use/abuse. Making one myself is one thing I have always wanted to do. Got all kinds of catalogs for pieces and parts and tools, just never have gotten started.

Dad started making knives abot 25 yrs ago. I got into it about 15 yrs ago, we started out blanking blades on dies. When the shop i work @ got lasers i went nuts, got into autocad and began designing blades. Then went and bought a burrking hollowgrinder. We have knives all over the world now.
I did take a break from knife making to build my shop, just about the time i got it done our first little papoose came along so i have been away from it for awhile. I started making the crossbow stocks, now its into both at the same time

next papoose is due in february :D , maybe a boy this time :D

Very very nice knife.

How long is the blade?
I found that the best and most practical knives for gutting and skinning game (deer, bear and moose) have a 3" blade and soft rubber handle.

The short blade makes the knife easier to handle and control. The rubber handle makes the knife almost slip proof when you're hands get bloodied.

Guest,

The blade on this knife is 6" long 1.25" wide and is .188" ( 3/16 ) thick, 440c stainless and has a hollw taper grind approx .50" wide. overall length is just under 10.50" long.
The handle is elk antler approx 1.5" dia. I prefer elk, deer, or stag handles due to the irregular grooves and curvature of the antler, these tend to give a very stable grip.
I use a phenolic spacer in black, white , and red between the brass and antler, i have some quilted maple ive been contemplating on using, ( sectional splice ) . could turn out to be interesting.

PM me and we can talk more. I havent shipped a knife into Canada and am not sure about how to go about it. I did look through some of the customs info i could get to online and this knife wouldnt be clasified a prohibited. prohibited knives are switchblade swing locs , butterflys etc.
