Very good quality optics

Post by Boo »

I have a couple of good binoculars but I've been looking for something more compact that's easier to handle, still have good optical quality and I didn't want to sacrifice field of view that binoculars give.
I just got a Vortex Solo monocular in 10X36. It is bright and really easy to use with just one hand. They are quite affordable! If you're looking for some hunting optics and don't want to let too many moths out of your wallet, check these out. At 9.7 oz, they are going into the field with me!

Error, error, error!

The 10x36 is just over $100 US. I saw the 10x25 ($50.53) and the 8x25($44) and just saw the "25" by the "8" and didn't notice that there was a "25", not a "35, x10. Sorry for the false alarm.

Yes I just checked it out, and HST is extra. so finally cost would be $197.74 Cdn.

I found a better deal at B+H Photo/Video $109.99 US - $145.64 Cdn. + free shipping to Canada, includes free bonus gift (Fenix Flashlight FEE01BBK LED Flashlight)

Of course with duties, etc + HST and PayPal fees, it comes to $132.71US / $180.91 Cdn.

Last time I checked exporting optics from US to individuals anywhere, including Canada was restricted if not prohibited, ever since 9/11. Not saying nobody would do that, but most I looked at wouldn't.
Also, if they ship by UPS expect to pay brokerage fees.

As far as stability, how does a monocular compare to binoculars? Does using one hand help or hinder? Something smaller than binoculars would sure be nice.

No lens caps. They came with a neoprene glove, a good neck strap and a large, wide belt clip.
They are the right size for one handed use. With one hand you can fine focus. For close inspection, 2 hands is a bit better.
I just got these monoculars and am just getting familiar. While doing that, I'm wondering if the 8X36 or the 8X25 might have been a better choice. Steadier, brighter and better edge to edge clarity (not that the later is bad at all or that it is important to me).
Either way, this is a fantastic option for hunting, price and performance considered. Any monocular that I've tried previously was dismal.
