Turkeys will come out in the field when it rains even in a down pour. That said, Turkeys have very good eye sight and hearing but with rain falling it gives you more chances as the rain dampens your sound in other words reduces their hearing..

On several occasions I have been driving home in a down pour and seen turkeys standing out in a field. Once I decided to stop and sneak up to them. I got to 15 yards of 2 toms and a hen in the middle of an open field and 2 of the birds had their heads tucked under their wings it was raining so hard ! I was going to putt and when the big Tom raised his head shoot him but as I stood there soaking wet I decided it just wasn't very sporting so i turned and left !

I don't hunt turkey, but I see a lot more of them in the fields when it is raining lightly, but steady! Good Luck!

I love it when it rains opening day or Saturday's it keeps 90% of the hunters in the house and leaves more turkeys for me to chase. They try to stay out of the bush in the rain as it interferes with thier hearing and in the open they can spot trouble coming. They do have trouble seeing lead travelling at 1400fps and arrows at 360fps

I killed my biggest bird ever in a light rain...22lbs, 11 and a half inch beard and 1" 5/8 spurs. 8)
He was gobbling his fool head off and i was able to get within 75yds of the tree he was roosted in. No doubt the rain helped me get this close. As soon as he pitched and hit the ground i purred one time and introduced him to some #6's.
