The turkey that could not be quiet .

Post by Doe Master »

We decided to hunt around the corner from my brothers place on Saturday . When we arrived at the bush in the dark my sister-in-law/Rhonda was bubbling with enthusiasm . :) As I said in a previous post she is really eager . We walked in on the trail dropping Dad/Old buck off along the way . We navigated our way through the dark with just our green flashlights . Along the way Rhonda whom is shorter than me walked under a cut off tree . Let me tell you coming to a dead stop in the dark hurts . I was surprised I did not shock gobble the birds for a couple miles square . We arrived at the trail where they were going to go in . When two coons started to have a heated argument at 5:12 in the morning . That is what woke up the bird . After a short discussion it was decided Rhonda`s short legs could not go over the obstacles . I was off to the races . I was able to get to within 100-150 yards . But was not able to get against a tree . I was out in the open with just my portable blind . I was able to get him just a little excited . To the point where he had to take a breathe to continue gobbling . :D
Here is a 1:30 video link to some of his gobbling

I had just two shooting lanes through the brambles . Our back and forth conversation lasted until 6:30 . When he couldn`t take it anymore . Broke from his strutting area out on the field to come into the bush . As luck would have it he approached from a spot where it was nasty . Giving me only a short 15 yard shot through a very small window .
Now I had a mile walk back out carry his arse . Yeah it was worth it . :) Picture approaching Dad .

Picture time . :)

Had to get one of Rhonda with a turkey . :)

To my surprise this is my first ever double bearded bird .
Image
He had respectable spurs . 1.0 inch

After going to their place for a quick breakfast we went back to the bush to chase another bird . That Dad and they heard .
Image
During our walk in we came across a Fisher . :)
Image
We didn`t end up hearing him but it was a nice day to sit in the woods .
Here is one from the day before with Dad and me . :)

The sad fact is I`m now done turkey hunting . I am now an observer . :?

Way to go Kevin! That's a great way to finish off your season as a shooter. At least you can now go out as the official caller/camera-op/photographer. :D
