Help Needed From Experienced Arrow Builders

Post by Livtahunt »

Going to order some Zombie Slayers from South Shore. John is currently not selling any.
http://www.southshorearcherysupply.com/ ... 53305.html

I will be using a Matrix 380 with 100 grain broadheads, lumenocks, and SK-300 vanes based on some of the recent topics I have read. These will be used for hunting not target shooting other than practicing in the yard.

Need help answering the following questions:
1. Choose Vane Setback Distance - Looks like it varies from .75"-1.375"
2. Choose Vane Orientation - helical, offset, straight, or tac-15 4 fletch which I have never heard of.
3. Length - Planning 18" unless someone advises me against it.
4. Inserts - Because I'm using 100 grain broadheads I believe I should use 92 grain brass inserts? Looks like they offer 80, 92, and 110.

Appreciate the help.

With the SK300's and Luminoks on the back end I suggest the 110 grain brass inserts. I prefer the helical over the offset just because it stabilizes the arrow quicker, especially with broadheads. I set my vanes 1" forward of the nock. No particular reason, that's where it lands in the Bolt fletcher and I'd keep it there even in my Bitz.. Jerry's a great guy to deal with and a wealth of knowledge. Well worth the call.

You want an inch or more set back so that you have something to grab with the Danny Miller arrow pullers.
With Luminoks, you need 92 grains up front as a minimum.
The more helical an arrow has, the more stable an arrow will be. Arrow roration overcomes inconsistencies in your arrow.
