M405

Post by Heavvyduty »

I have a M405, Because it shoots so fast and flat.
Would you sight it in using the 20 30 40 marks on scope. OR find a happy in-between yardage so its like a little high at 20 an low at 40.
And has anyone done this with there 405.And what were your sight in points. Hope this makes since.

I have a 405 and a faster custom bow. If you're shooting an Excalibur DLX scope I suggest using the 20yard zero. If you're using a rifle scope or similar you can set it up as you like. I just think seeing the hash marks numbered but having a different value could spell disaster for hunting.

I shoot a 380 Matrix with 388 gr arrow at 378fps.
I use a Hawke scope with multiple crosshairs. Because it is so flat shooting I personally prefer to sight it in using just the primary crosshair. I use the primary reticle all the way out to 40 yds by simply sighting in at 20yds 2 inchs high I am still a inch high at 30yds and right on at 35yds shooting about an inch low at 40 yds. This puts me easily in the kill zone of any deer out to 40yds using just the primary crosshair. I then sight in at 50 yds using the second reticle, that will cover 45-55 quite well. Makes for a simple hunting setup. No need to remember which reticle to use all the way to 40 yds and then 45-55 is the second reticle. Works for me even though I only shoot at deer out to 40 yds unless I'm hunting a field edge with no obstructions.

I sighted my 405 in exactly the same as my 380, 30 yard zero, and move my target to 50 yards and set the power ring for dead on with the 3rd aiming point. This gives 40 yards and sixty yard aiming points dead in within 1 yard of the 10 yard increments.

sighted in at 30 yards using a dead on hold I am never more than 1.8" high to 30, and only 2" low at 35 yards.

Much the same with the 380 30 yard zero and never more than 2.1" high to 30, and only 2.2" low at 35 yards.

Even my 350WC Matrix is dead on at 30 yards and never more than 2.6" high to 30, and only 2.6" low at 35 yards.

I can aim dead center of the boiler room with any deer out to 35 yards and know it's dead if pull the trigger with any one of these bows. I say it all the time and will again here 20 even 30 fps is hard to see a difference without a chronograph at hunting range,,, speed is way over rated, and exactly why, even though I had zero problems with both of my 405's, the benefits of the 380 and 350 proved to they were better fer me and 405's went down the road,,,,,Image

Well said 'Catter.

The 380 shoots at a velocity that minimizes our reliance on super-accurate range estimation out to 40 yards - if we let it!
