Heavy arrow findings: BD 400

Post by Hunt it »

Playing with the BD this am, discovered something. I made up 2 double shafted 18" arrows, CE 4000 inside of executioners with 90gr inserts up front. Total weight with 100 gr tip is 545gr which is 130gr heavier than my normal arrows. I was surprised to see that they had exact same point of impact At 20-30 and 40 as the lighter arrows. At 50 they were 4" low. I'm going to make up a couple of 20" zombies with CE 4000 shaft inside and 110 gr inserts to see how they fly. Might even put on a few 300 gr broadheads like the 300xtreme or 300 VPA and see how real FOC flies. It would be handy to have a super heavy arrow or two in the quiver for moose season as long as the trajectory is close to my long distance arrows.

I find this interesting. I wonder if the lighter foc has anything to do with it? I have a couple laserIV I thought about cutting down and running a 175 slick trick with a 60gr brass insert. Figure it would give me about 540gr arrow.

I'm wondering what point of no return is? I have to think if Point of impact is exact same at 20-30-40 with 145 grns more weight then the speed of arrow has to be close/unchanged up to 40yrds??? Drop at 50 was 6". I'm goint to up the point weight from 100 to 180 and then up to 300 to see what happens.

... can someone put together some numbers of what FOC we should be aiming to achieve for different arrow length's and different configurations to obtain the best accuracy out to let's say 60-70 yards? If it has been done and if it is not too much problem!

This whole discussion has been very interesting to say the least!
