Flemish String

Post by Phil W »

I have a Matrix 355 and want to switch from the original string to a Flemish string because the original just keeps stretching and stretching and stretching. I check my brace height frequently and get tired of having to adjust it due to string stretch. I have also read that the Flemish will give a few more FPS. I shot 6 Diablo bolts with 150 gr Boltcutters through my chrony with the factory string and it averaged 339 fps. I don't have time to do a bunch of research on what is the best Flemish material or style string is best. I simply want a top quality Flemish string and I could not care less what color it is. Also, I'm not interested in being on some custom string makers 6 months waiting list. Who can I call today and order a quality Flemish string for my M355 and expect to get it in a week? Also, is the Excalibur Flemish string #1989 just as good as anybody's? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Good choice going with flemish. Any of the string makers in the classified section will help you out. First thing I do with a new bow is put a flemish on...

You should understand that any string will continuously stretch. It will slow down substantially but will still stretch. Regardless of Flemish or endless loop. As far as being faster or slower, that's dependent on the material used and the number of strands in the particular string. The Flemish string does reduce felt vibration and perceived noise on the shot. One thing I strongly recommend is to set your string back 3/8' greater brace height than you want to end up with. Especially a new string.Example: you want a 3/4" final brace height so you set it to 1 1/8". This puts more pre stress on the string and aids the settling in process faster.

To keep the peace I'll recommend calling Danny Miller at Horizontal Archery in Sardis, Ohio. I'd suggest buying two. His strings work perfectly and he'll have them in the mail by the next day and his prices are very reasonable.

Lastly, and this is a legitimate question, why do you think people would go on a waiting list for a string? Just some food for thought.

This is why I made the waiting list comment. The first custom string maker's website I went on stated this "Before we get going I would like to tell you that depending on the time of year (ie:hunting season) the waiting time can get quite lengthy. Please do not order a string with the expectation that it will be ready for the up and coming hunting season. Waiting times are typically 6 to a year. "

Good materials will slow the stretch down alot, also the pre-stretch from Custom String maker will really help. Several string makers here can most likely get you a decent string made n to you wid in 2 weeks

Short answer, No. Simply put, a faster string is the one with fewer strands and weighing less.

I use to build alot of Endless Loop strings before Dan turn me on to the Flemish, In my experience the Endless Loop stretch much less than the Flemish built with the same materials. As stated the speed will be determined by the weight of each string .

The reason for the six month wait is that he is a very busy man who pruduces top quality strings in his spare time. There are other quality stringmakers on the forum who have very little wait time. Check the forum classifieds for more information. All of them make exellent quality strings with very little stretch. :D

Paul, I see where you replied to bigrak's question about speed increase with Flemish string is "No". I just watched a video on this website by the owner of Excalibur and he said switching to the Flemish string would result in a 15 fps increase. I really don't know what to believe.
