Bountiful Year

Post by papabear1 »

Don't know about elsewhere, but here in my neck of the woods,
the oak trees are hanging heavy with acorns,
some of the red oaks are so full of acorns that the limbs are breaking off,
and the white oaks are absolutely loaded with huge acorns,
that means fat, healthy, deer. :D and turkeys, and squirrels.
and me,

Dave

P.S.
How does it look in you're neck of the woods. ??

Here in the bluegrass region of Kentucky acorns are scarce. Hickory nuts are bountiful though.

I was just running my dogs yesterday in southeast Michigan and noticed the apple trees are bare and the oaks have very few acorns. Which means the guys using bait will do well after the crops are down but if it's going to be the winter they are calling for the critters are in for a hard winter.

Here in middle Tn there was no mast crop at all last year. Racks on my cameras seem a little smaller than previous years.

That being said, this year is a bumper crop. Acorns are plentiful and persimmon trees are bent over and breaking limbs.

Here is south central wi. After last years bumper crop of nuts we only have a few hickory and some white acorns my apple an pear trees only have fruit on south east sides and my crab apples are bare . The deer are hitting the beans and corn hard right now. The benefit from last year is we have some serious bruisers showing up on cameras and the 17th can't get here quick enough :D
Good luck to everyone

Norther WI where I hunt there aren't any oak trees :(
There is a bumper crop of mushrooms this year, and the corn and soybean fields are heavy with crop. So... bigger bucks won't be moving much until just before the rut. Thought I would try some C'Mere Deer 3 Day Harvest Deer Attractant so I picked up a bag and put it out today. Will check my cameras in a couple weeks and see what action there is. I will be harvesting a young (2-1/2 yr old) doe that doesn't have any fawns for steaks and chops. Any bucks I manage to get I will can with the pressure cooker. I use my crossbow for both archery and rifle season. :)
