Broadhead vs bone (doe down)

Post by DuckHunt »

Opening morning of the early doe only gun hunt in Loudoun County, VA was so successful, I decided to hunt with my Micro 335 the rest of the gun season. This morning a doe was heading my way and hung up about 30 yards away. I thought the wind was in my favor but it swirls something bad here in the mountains. There were also remnants of innards of Saturday's other doe at about the spot she stopped. She turned and started walking a circle around me. I finally found an opening and ranged her slightly quartering away at 32 yards. She was alert and looking around as if she knew something was suspicious. Expecting a drop, I put my 30 yard mark on the top of the heart and squeezed the trigger. The lumenock raced to impact and you could solidly hear a hit. She turned and bolted and was quickly out of sight.

Cutting to the chase, we found her less than 100 yards from the point of impact. She definitely moved before the arrow arrived. It entered the hind quarter and solidly struck the femor before continuing forward burying all the way up to the nock.

This is only the second time I haven't gotten a pass through and in both cases it was solid bone that hampered penetration. Here is the 100gr Wasp Drone after the trip.

Given the impact, I'm happy that I had a fixed head with a steel shank. All things considered the Drone performed excellent.
