Need some input.

Post by Born2hunt »

Hello all, I'm new to the crossbow world. I found and bought a matrix 380 lite stuff package last year, and the little woman loved it so I bought her a matrix 355 package so just have the things that came with them. I know a lot of it is personal preference, but my question(s) what kind of accessories are needed and or what do I need to make the best of the bows? Thank you all for your input any and all will be greatly appreciated. Jason.

This ought to generate lots of replies. The question is one of need versus want. The package you got has everything you need except broadheads. If you plan to hunt big game, you'll "need" broadheads. Now for a list of other possibilities that are wants: The most important items at the top of the list:

More matched bolts/arrows
Spare string(s) (for when you nick you current string with a sharp broadhead)
De-stringing rope (bought my primary)
Scope covers (if you package didn't come with some, for when it snows/rains)
Sling (I use a piece of nylon utility cord that just fits through the sling mount holes)
Lighted nocks to find pass-throughs buried in the ground.
Spare cocking rope (in case primary breaks/has issues)
Spare de-stringing rope ( made one that I carry in my pack with a spare string)
Crossbow Case
Tac Bracket (extra Picatinny rails)
Picatinny mounted flashlight (night hunting for gators and hogs)
Picatinny mounted laser (I use mine to double-check my scope is still "on")

I'm sure I'm forgetting lots of stuff. Others can insert items into the list.

Thank you very much, we will mostly just be hunting whitetail deer in Ohio, I did get some broad heads (muzzy) always loved them with my longbow. I bought a stringing aid to make BH adjustments and whatnot. Bought the little lady a c2 crank and also have the 2 rope hand cocking aids. I know that strings are personal preference also, and have read thru some posts stating different string makers on here and the CT forum also that are top notch. I need to get some ordered from someone. And I definitely want some good/better bolts. The Diablos have been fine so far but I definitely want something better to use thru both bows. I definitely want to get some bumpers for the 355 since it doesn't come with any. I've heard the bumpers from Danny are great and cheaper than others.

You seem to have a good grasp on what is needed... I might add ordering a ADF for your wifes 355 when you order the set of Danny's bumpers, as they have saved many a limb due to a dry fire.

If slings come into play ? The "claw" is an excellent choice.

Also if a warranty issue should come up on your Excal scopes at some point ? I would talk with Danny Miller about having him upgrade them while possibly allowing the value of your present Excal. scope towards a Leupold Crossbones.

Thank you Gene, the 380 scope seems like it got some moisture inside of it somehow. Never been out in the rain or stored anywhere other than in the house, I will definitely ask about doing something with it toward another scope.
