Sighting in a vari zone scope

Post by PA412 »

I have question in regards to sighting in my Equinox, it has a Excalibur vari-zone scope mounted. I followed the instructions: it says to start at 10 yards so I got it shooting nice groups at 10 and move out to 20 which I did and I adjusted so I was shooting nice groups. But when I moved out to 30 yards I'm 1 1/2-2" high, so I adjust shooting good groups at 30. But when I go back to 20 yards I'm low. What am I doing wrong?
Thank you

Sight in dead on at 20 yards.
Move target to 40 yards and pick a spot at the top of the target and use the 20 yard crosshair. You will hit several inches low.
Now without an arrow in the bow sight again using the 20 yard crosshair at the same spot as before and turn the speed dial to the point where the 2nd hash mark down is on the arrow you shot.
Now shoot using the 40 yard hash mark at a dot at 40 yards. Adjust the speed dial if necessary but you should be real close to being dead on.

Never touch the turrets once sighted in at 20 yards.

I sight in at 20 with main crosshairs
then take target out to 40 yds
shoot at 40 yards using the 40 yds marker (chevron/triangle thing)

Move scope speed ring (not crosshairs) until it lines up to where the arrow landed at 40 yds...

Move back to 20 take a few shots with main crosshairs at the 20 mark just to double check zero
Then take shoot it at 30 yds using the first chevron/triangle thing.

Now your bow will hit dead on @ the 20 yd using the main crosshairs
hit dead on @ 30 using the 1st chevron/triangle thing
hit dead on @ 40 using the 2nd chevron/triangle thing
and should hit dead on or real close @ 50 yards using the last chevron/triangle thing...

This may help to understand what the fellas are telling you to do. You use the scope turrets to adjust your center crosshairs at 20yards. You don't adjust them again unless you need a little fine tuning left or right at further ranges. To get your hash marks (little triangle things) to line up at 20, 30, 40, and 50yards you turn your speed dial on the scope. As you turn it one direction or the other the 20yard center crosshairs won't move but the hash marks will get closer together or further apart. I do suggest you set everything up on a bench with a solid rest like sand bags. With the hash marks (triangle things) I've found it most effective to use the tip of the triangle as my aiming point. Good luck. Once you do it you'll see how easy it actually is.
