Long Haul Ravine Buck

Post by Normous »

The longer I hunt my private bushlots in Southern Ontario the more I realize that if I plan to arrow a big deer I'd better be prepared for the extra effort to extract a such a hard to hunt animal.

This bushlot in particular has always presented big buck sign in the past but the steep ravines and difficult extraction potential sure adds a challenge.

This big boy gave me a 30 yard broadside shot from the ground and went 70 yards ending up near the steep creek bottom and there was no way Patti and I could get him up or move him far because he was very heavy!

My only choice was to quarter him and bring him up in pieces. The fun began as many of you know quite well.

This is my best buck to date.

Tagged, quartered, loined and backstraps packed for the long 1.5 KM pull back to the truck. I feel not too beat up bad surprisingly.
