I just got a smaller x stand for my son and I must say the quality and safety of putting it up is the best I have seen. If you had those swivel stakes that go on bottom of the ladder I have no doubt you could put it up solo and feel safe doing it!

I just buy the cheapest two-man ladder stands I can find, (usually at Dicks sporting goods...around a $100 USD when discounted post hunting season), if the seat is uncomfortable I just buy a cushion to leave there. I cover the stand from the shooting rail down with camo burlap. This way I have room to stretch out my legs and my bow sits beside me, leaning up against the shooting rail, always ready. The only thing an approaching deer sees is the very top of my head and the bow trained on its vitals. I have never had an issue getting a shot at deer up close, but I have had to stand up to take the shot which is easier to do when you have a blind to conceal that movement. I don't buy hang-on stands anymore, I'm slowly phasing them all out in favour of this setup.

I've switched to the Dicks 17 footer lots of room and seat flips up, platform goes all the way to the tree. They are on sale now. Another nice one I believe rivers edge or something like that called Jumbo Jack or similar about same features as Dicks brand. I have a Far arse and these are very comfy. Almost forgot the best part of both a flip up foot rail, didn't think it would make much difference but it really does.

In Archery we use Summit climbers because we can MOVE ...I n gun season we use ladderstands as your shots are longer with Gun...Also you can hide your climber better in archery than in Gun season in brush so thats a BIG plus not carrying out climber but in gun season they will steal climber quick..

double stands i like best as you can store your equipment next to you thats nice ..more room is better....i use my Summit top section to sit in I cannot sit on any metal stand even with cushions so i use top of my summit its nice i have rail around me in case i fall asleep ..

I hunted in a 20' double rung ladder stand I bought from Sportsmans Guide yesterday. I was talking to my nephew about a buck I saw out of it last night and he was amazed that I was still hunting that ladder stand. When I asked him why he told me that he helped me put it up where it still sits 20 years ago. The strap around the tree busted a few years ago but the stand does not move at all cause the tree has grown over the back bar. Probably will take a chainsaw to get it loose now.
I hope to get at least another 10 years out of it as I think it cost $69 back then. :D

I have been using 2 new X-Stands (The Duke) all season. They are nice stands and are very comfortable. BUT..they are noisy. There are creaks in both of them. They give you cheap plastic washers that were supposed to help with squeaks but they don't. I will be pulling them both down after season and replacing all the washers with upgraded ones and some new bolts here and there. Do yourself a favor and scrap the red washers they send you and get some good ones and put them everywhere you can.

When I hunted, I used spray foam ( insulation foam) on the stands to quiet metal. It worked! I used it in all hollow places. I also used a length of rubber fuel hose (instead of supplied hose) to get into some tight spaces to apply foam.

I was one of the inventors of the Summit climber sound deadening system ..It was as you did I foamed my Summit climber long ago with spray foam ..Now Summit does it to all their climbers .....

Summit needs to find way to make their stands lighter like 10 pds But still have lots of room and safe to use ....If so you would see boom in climbers ..

Over the last few years the guys I hunt with have switched over to some ladder stands. The ones we use are from Dicks Sporting Goods. They are there $59.00 dollars ones and I bought a couple of the Buddy Boy Comfort Zone ones. The Buddy Boy are very comfortable and roomy. What I also bought was the extension section to get you up higher. Plenty of height for both the single and two man ones. I do use extra ratchets with them which makes them rock solid. The reason we switched are we are not them spring chickens like years ago. You know that age thing. The other reason is I take my niece and nephew out hunting and the two man works great. Good luck with your decision.
