Got the bullet out of the deer today. Barnes "Expander MZ" 250 grain.
Still weighed 250 grains. Base diameter was .451 and the expanded petals measure .972 as closely as I could mike them. The rifle (CVA Wolf) was loaded with 75 grains of fffg Goex black powder.
Never lost a deer yet with a Barnes bullet, but this was the second one I had to track using the 250 grain bullet (the other one went about 30 yards). I may go back to the 300 grain bullets I used in the past.

It was at 45-50 yards. I was using a very mild load of 75 grain of fffg Goex black powder under the bullet.

I had trouble years ago getting them to open fully , They need to be pushed as fast as possible !
