new camera!

Post by Red Label »

Well I joined the digital age today. Just in time for opening day!

Future Shop had the Canon S1 IS on sale, so I scooped one up...well actually my wife did because I couldn't bring myself to do it. It is 3.2MP and has 10x optical zoom, image stabilized technology (whatever the heck that is), & it will take short movies with sound.

I will be upgrading the memory card shortly, we'll see how many shots the current one will hold.

Once we get the software and stuff all sorted out we'll start playing...I may need HELP!

Good one..

The 10x optical zoom will come in very handiy for wildlife shots. Anyone expecting those kinds of shot should settle for nothing less than 10X

The image stabilized technology (whatever the heck that is) will also come in very handy when you are zoomed all the way out and have no tripod to steady the camera on. That keeps that picture from bouncing all over the place and it look like 5 deer instead of just the one you are taking the picture of.

Enjoy your new toy.

I know I've enjoyed mine so far..

Nice camera Red Label,, I was looking at those a couple of months ago,, but could'nt bring myself to buy it  a little costly for me right now...

What size card came with the camera? the amount of photos you can put on a card , will depend on what resolution or pixel size you use..(photo quality)

Have fun with it,, & look forward to seeing some of your photos you capture with it

Congrats Mike, just think, you only have 6 days to play with it, before you have a chance to christen it with a deer pic.

Congrats Mike :) , not familiar with that camera, but with 10x lens you can't go wrong :D

Do a lot of practicing at 10x zoom, to get used to holding steady when shooting, as even with the stabilizer it may take some getting use to

With a digital you can take a bunch of pics, pick out the best and delete the rest :)

Congrats, Red! I have the Cannon Powershot S30 for a couple of years now. It has similar features: 3X mechanical and 10X digital zoom, and mini movies with sound. I bought it with a 128 meg card and an extra battery which are both very handy to have. I don't have the image stabilisation feature, so I do have to be steady for the 10X zoom.

You will find that you will be hard pressed to go back to using a film type camera. I won't even look at my old SLR anymore. It's so darn easy to take pics and load them up to your computer and share your pics through email with family and friends. Also, if you have a good quality bubble jet printer and photo paper, the results can be astonishing ...although too costly to use for high volume printing.

There are quite a few settings you can put the camera in and half the fun is mastering these settings/features. Auto works great for most shots, but certain moments require the proper setting to get that perfect shot.

I can't say enough about going digital! I just love it!

Hi Mike. I'm green with envy! My old Sony FD-73 has been doing weird stuff lately and I've threatened to buy a new digicam. It's a 10X, and I've used it to death. I've taken over 10,000 pics with it and it does a good job, though now obsolete. Hate to see it go.
So tell us, what was the 'damage' on the new Canon?? Nice pics too, your wife is so young looking and beautiful...
