Speed setting for micro supressor @ 400grn?

Post by mlmcasual »

Hi.. just got a Micro Suppressor.. They are rated at 343fps with 350grn overall... but I will always be shooting 400grn overall (150grn broad heads and fields)

What would be a good speed setting on the scope to start with? Any ideas?

Thanks...

I'd set it on 330 and sight it dead on at 20 yards...then back up to 40 and see where it hits. If you hit low, dial the speed setting down, if you hit high, dial the speed setting up. You will just have to tweak it to find out where it needs to be.
Still lovin' my EXCALIBUR MICRO 355! :-)

Just stating the obvious, make sure to check POI at 30-40-50-60 before hunting. The speed ring is approximate and doesn't necessarily match your arrow's true speed. Sight-in @ 20y, shoot at 50y and use the scope's magnification to raise or lower your POI and then go kill and repeat.

Thanks for the help. My first crossbow and look forward to shooting and hunting.
The draw weight at 280lb is noticeably more then 200lb of the Grizzly (which I have shot). Nothing I can't muster but will have to work on form or it's going to rack my back.

Just put the micro suppressor together today out of the box. It's unbelievable how small it is. It looks like a toy, that is until you cock it back and see it's no joke. That is a LOT of stored energy in them limbs. I am anxious to see what kind of grouping I can get at 20, out to 60. I got some 150 adjustable bolt cutters on the way. I will need to get some lighted quill bolts. Will the lighted ones fly different?

I will have to get some good sound recordings.. I have a decent audio field recorder..

Out of my Micro 355, I did not see any difference with the lighted Quill's. So you should be ok.

My suppressor is shooting 16.5 " 432 gr zombies with lumenocks with speed dial set at 315
Great groups out to 60yds
If I use 1fps loss per 3 grains above 350 grains the calculation works out perfect
432 grains-350 grains = 82 grains ÷3 = 27.3
343 fps -27.3 fps = speed dial setting 315.7 fps

Do the fool proof method. Set dead zero at 20 yards, stack two targets at 50 yards, and put a dot near the top of double stacked set. Use the 20 yard on that top dot knowing your arrow will be about 36" low at worse case. Do this off a bench rest! Now, set the 20 on the dot, zoom until the 20 is on the dot, and the 50 is on that arrow, you're golden! Works like nothing else I have ever tried.
