matrix 405 - very Hard hitting

Post by crossbowsam »

Hi everyone, I am new to this Forum and would like to ask you folks some questions: today i shot at a 3d boar target. Problem is, the bolts do not protrude at the back of the target and it seems as if the shaft has somehow welded itself to the target. Normally i overcome this by just hitting the fieldpoint with a dowel to Start the bolts. No Chance this time. Does anyone know how to get these bolts out? Second: is it ok to shoot the 405 without the r.e.d.s. Suppressors? They seem to fray the string.

Greetings

Get a Danny Miller arra puller. Grab the arra, twist to de-weld and pull. Next get some acetone and remove the decal. Then lube your arra shaft. Bob's your uncle!

Thank you. Getting the arrow puller will be a little tough 'cause i live in germany... But since i understand you are the blackbelt of crossbowstrings, how much fraying of a string is tolerable according to your experience?

Quantifying the amount of fraying is difficult at best to convey by way of text. But hold my beer and let's try this. Your string is way over built. It probably has 4 strands or more than it needs. So, at 4 strands excess, you can lose about 14% of your string material before you should think about replacing your string, which is a whole lot of string material. Just an idea. Do your math and try with a Vernier caliper. Personally, I think it's too much effort.
If you keep some string/serving lube on your string where it hits the bumpers, you will reduce the rate of decay.
Alternatively, you can take some string material (because it is super lightweight) and serve the area that the bumpers hit. I don't worry about it as I've never heard of a string failure in that area of the string to date.

BTW, I'm sure that Danny would ship to Germany if you made a phone call 740 483 2312 or FAX 740 483 2030 I do not know his country code and he does not do emails.
The pullers will become your new best friend

Sounds like you need a higher brace height if it is hitting that hard. Keep the string at least 1/4" off the bumpers and 3/8" might be better for the 405.

I noticed this quite a bit with the factory string that came new on my M380. But the fraying at the bumpers seemed to go away for the most part when I switched to the FlemishTswist string ( I've been real happy with Vixenmaster's)...

What happens is that impact speeds are so high that the friction in the target causes the foam to melt or soften and attach itself to the arrow shaft. Shooters are using soap or lubricant to act as a barrier to the melted foam.

Thank you guys! With your help i was finally able to get the bolts out(took the target inside, let it warm a bit and broke the weld).
This is a great forum!

An arrow puller won't do you much good until you remove the decals with acetone. I forced a Zombie out of my foam target and there was so much foam fused to my shaft that I had to scrape it off with a knife.

Best solution is to make yourself a rag bag target from old clothes stuffed into a feed bag etc....there is a GREAT idea pictured here on the forum of a garbage can, packed with rags and laid on its side.
