Successful hunt

Post by Doe Master »

Finally got the will to go hunting by myself (sort of) . After visiting Mom in the hospital I got home to feed her cat . Set my alarm to get up five hours later . There was no tentative or groggy about it . I got to the bush at half past are you friggin nuts . I talked to Dad all the way in . Got to the spot about half hour before legal . The waited and waited . Legal came and went without a gobble . Then about 15 minutes in there was a couple of weak gobbles across the large field . I threw out a few calls and hoped . Well about another 15 minutes later I see three birds sauntering across towards me . Problem is they were coming in now from my right side . No time to move the chair so move the gun across to the left shoulder . They stood out at about 40 yards behind some brush and did the most pathetic gobbles imaginable . Finally with some of my sweetest sexy clucks and purrs they committed . I took the lead bird at 17 yards . If I was allowed another bird I could of shot one of the others . They stood there dumbfounded as to why their buddy was lying on the ground .
I was as excited about this bird as I have ever been . I had a very hard time texting everyone . So phoned a friend and as I was talking to him I started to cry .
I put Dads and my tag both on this bird .
Pictures later . :)

Way to go Kevin. I asked my Dad to join me for Turkey this year. His knee is in bad shape and couldn't make it. This made me sad but hoping his condition improves so we can hunt together again some day...

Kevin I am so happy that you got to get out in the woods. Congrats on the bird and a great , but emotional hunt. My dad has been gone 25 years. We were real close like you and Old Buck. I think of him every day. I know this is tough for you, but you have got him in your heart. You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers.

The two tags affixed to the bird . Dads tag was just for ceremonial reasons .

A friend suggested the two feathers in a tribute for Dad .

x2 i think the woods is where we get away from the bs & the important stuff rises to the top.... i always ask the lord for a lil guidance and to give my daughter a hug for me when i'm in my stand or alone at camp...as a stranger i hesitate to tell you how to deal with your loss but, if i may, i'd recommend that you hunt more & celebrate your father when u do. best wishes.
