Printed a broadhead wrench

Post by shafferm »

After seeing the post from prossbow on not using a broadhead wrench I decided to take a look around the online 3D cad repository of thingiverse.com and came across the following broadhead wrench model. https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2391146
Here is the finished part on my Voron 3D printer that I finished building a few weeks ago.

Here is the end view of the printed wrench, it works great on the couple of fixed blade broadheads that I tried it on.

Much nicer than having to worry about having it come loose all at once and slicing open part of your hand.

Good eye on that being a loonie, got that the last time I made it up for Boofest and was able to get it back across the border into Michigan. The material for this print was PLA plastic. This is what I usually use for quick testing and calibration and can also print in ABS, and PETG and do print some things in glass fiber reinforced PETG with a hardened steel nozzle. Most of the filaments without glass or carbon fibers can be printed with a standard brass nozzle. Definitely fun and useful for tinkering.

:) Very cool with the 3D printing. What is the cost of something like that? You can buy different styles of broadhead wrenches from $1.99 - $3.99.

Not quite there on the homebuilt 3D printers to do metal, yet. I weighed the print and it worked out to costing around $0.16 USD as I can get a kilogram of PLA filament for $29 USD. There is a bit of additional cost for the electricity to run the machine as well although if we throw in a couple of cents for that it is still under 20 cents to print. On the plus side it is just plain fun to watch it work.
