Exomax "Major Screw Up"
No excuses!! I did a very dumb a?? thing while checking the zero on my Exomax. I shot it with no arrow in it!! Got in a hurry so I could get home to pack for the hunt. Whoops, I said no excuses!!
It threw the string off hitting me in the face with no injuries. The bow looks ok but has a small splinter appear on one of the limbs about 1 3/4" long. It is very shallow and did not grow after I restrung the bow and shot it well over 50 times. Dacron string is ok.
Splinter
After removing splinter.
The scope required re-zeoring after I had restrung the bow. The consistency and accuracy is the same as before I shot it with no arrow in it.
Got to say Excalibur crossbows are the real deal. Now if I can get my head out of my a?? I may be in my tree stand tomorrow.

Re: Exomax "Major Screw Up"
Yes I was but the design and manufacturing process also played a role in preventing an injury
and/or more damage to the bow.
I'll never own a compound crossbow or use a Flemish string on the Exomax. If I am stupid enough to shoot my crossbow with no arrow in it I shouldn't ever own a compound crossbow or try a Flemish string.
Have owned the Exomax since 2013 so I know better.

Re: Exomax "Major Screw Up"
I did the same thing years ago with my Vortex. Was shooting at 10PM from my driveway into my garage as part of a string or serving test. Got
my routine interrupted by my son and did a dry fire. Got a similar splinter and it had no ill effects. And I had a Flemish on it at the time. I'd say your good to go but I bet if you call Danny Miller and tell him what happened a magical fairy will drop a set of limbs off in your mailbox.

I thought about that and may do it later after hunting season is over.nchunterkw wrote: ↑Tue Oct 10, 2017 3:28 pmI did the same thing years ago with my Vortex. Was shooting at 10PM from my driveway into my garage as part of a string or serving test. Got

Re: Exomax "Major Screw Up"
There's two kind of Excalibur owners......The ones who have dry fired there bows and the ones that are going too ! Wouldn't own one without the anti dry fire device. Even put it on my Exocet 200 . Excalibur will have you up and going quick !

Welcome to the dry fire club with its long list of distinguished members. Or what I like to call " string flingers anonymous".

A new President of the dry firing club? Been there done that! Sounds like you'll get through the season okay.

Re: Exomax "Major Screw Up"
Welcome to the dry fire club , I would definitely have those limbs replaced though just in case

Re: Exomax "Major Screw Up"
None of my dryfires in my Excalibur did anything but waste my time looking for the arrow that I thought was loaded and looking for my string. I have and still own many compound crossbows. However, I've dryfires 3 of them and each time it was a lot more shall we say spectacular Each dry fire cost me cables, a string and 2 cams. Far more exciting than retiring my Excaliburs.

When I did it I wasn't even in a hurry.. I was casually relaxing and taking my time target plunking.

I had a splinter like that some years ago. Trimmed it off and sanded it down and hunted with it like that for several years with no issues.
Put a new string on it though.

Re: Exomax "Major Screw Up"
I tried this stuff on my last small splinter on my Equinox limb.
Seems to hold it together and smooth out area with no further progress of the splinter
Lightly applied and have shot couple hundred shoots more to date.
This was a Quick and Easy 15 sec repair.

Have repaired a lot of things with this stuff.
Rather than break it off leaving a ugly scar in limb Camo Pattern if done neatly makes the splinter hard to notice looking back at you every time you handle your bow. Plus it reduces the risk of you forgetting the splinter is there rubbing your bare hand against it giving you a nasty splinter sliver.
