Saw needed for arrow building?
I shoot 16.5" BEEs out of my micro 335. I am thinking about trying to make my own arrows. I would want to buy shafts and cut them down. Can I use my mitre saw to cut the shafts or is there another specialized saw that I need? Thanks for the help.

Re: Saw needed for arrow building?
Its more the blade than the saw. Has to be a very smooth cutting blade or your arrows may have micro splits that would be dangerous. Personally I would buy a proper arrow saw. But thats just me.

Basically the arrow saw uses a thin grinding wheel, like a cut off style wheel. There have been some very clever designs posted here in the past, do a search, and then PM the geniuses that made them!

I've seen a dremal with the flex attachment bench mounted on a hinge and rollers from spam cupboards used to make an arrow saw

I have been using the Arbor Freight 2" Mini Cut Off Saw for over 10 years on aluminum and Carbon arrows with confidence. $35 bucks and works perfect!

Half of the problem is cutting them . But almost as important is that they are SQUARE so your inserts are square. You can cut them with any fine blade but get a squaring tool for 30 bucks.

I broke down and finally bought an Apple arrow saw, G5 squaring tool and some very good jigs! I've tried the cheap way and was not at all happy! I didn't buy the best & expensive tools but did buy the correct tools for the trade! Good luck!

Re: Saw needed for arrow building?
This and a squaring tool. When I use my little saw I go a little past 1/2 way then turn the arrow 180 degrees and do the other 1/2 of the cut. If not I sometimes get a small chip out at the very end of the cut.

Re: Saw needed for arrow building?
I set up and cut some carbon arrows with my new saw. That thing is so sweet! I have it set up for a rolling cut. This thing cuts arrows so smooth and almost perfectly square! Finished them up with the G5 squaring tool for a perfect finished ready for inserts. Bought insert glue from Jerry from SSAS and that is the best insert glue I’ve ever used! Just waiting for a crossbow nock reciever for my Bohning Blazer jig and I can get some arrows fletched up with some new Blazer vanes.
