Hunting close to the house/back yard

I had a place with some land and deer that butted to a several thousand acre hill with oaks and beeches. We always had deer and turkeys in the yard where I kept about 3 acres clear and mowed. My rule was that I would not kill one of 'our pets' that we watched year round even the bucks if they were in or near the yard and even on the mountain if I recognised them. I was able to shoot lots of visiting bucks that we never saw before so kept the family happy and kept to my standards. I have in my creed for hunting that no baiting or shooting pets is allowed but that's just a personal thing. If you have some deer around the yard that need to visit your freezer it should be pretty easy to do a little scouting and set up a camera or 2 to figure out where you can set up a good ambush point that takes into account the wind and your entry and egress routes. I knew a person that had a similar situation and went as far as putting a thin sheet of plastic in a window overlooking some shrubs in his yard that the deer liked so he could shoot an 8 point right through the window. I don't think anyone would call that 'hunting' but he said it didn't taste any different than the bucks I killed miles back in the woods so there you go.

I've had deer, turkey, and coyote within 40 yards of my back door along the bush line and there's zero reason (no food, water, etc) for them to be there. Seeing as you have two great sources of deer feed along your bush line, I would definitely have a stand and trail cam setup.

Like others biggest concern is deer crossing propery line and having to retrieve it from neighbors.

Double lung them and they won’t go far. Three of the deer I got recently were double lunged and the furthest any one got was less than 30 yards.

You are doing something right then. I have DL shot a lot and never had one go less than 50/60 yards and most go 80/90 yards.

I don't know what is different. I'm using Carbon Express Torrid SS broadheads. The deer's lungs are pretty chopped up when I gut them.

I would give it a shot <pun intended> unless you want to create sort of a sanctuary where game feels safe around your place. The older I get the more I find its just as rewarding to watch them as to shoot them. I enjoy just getting away from it all for a while. It's an escape. Sometimes just watching one and letting it walk feels just as good as bagging one, for me anyways.
