Venison neck roast , an update from former post.

I am butchering tomorrow and was wondering if anyone on the form do venison neck roast and what is your opinion of them.

I stay away from them because of all the lymph nodes in the neck. I take the meat, but make sure to not get any lymph nodes. CWD is in the spine and lymph nodes. We don't have it here but I try to be safe.

Hey a neck roast in the slow cooker with onion soup mix is one if the best leaks you can eat

The article mentions that they use lymph nodes from the throat for the test...............and that Michigan was the latest state to find CWD in it's wild herd....although this was in 2016.

It's not hard to trim up the neck roast removing any glands

Hey every one thank you for the input I have decided to give a roast a shot .
I have taken care to locate and make sure I have no glands in the roast the heads up is appreciated great information.
I went youtube and found some cooking tips sounds like a nice way to deal with the neck.

I asked about Venison neck roast a while back as I had never tried one and now I can report that they are wonderful !
I did one up in my crock pot last weekend with potatoes, carrots, an onion , sweet pepper, garlic one jar brown gravy one jar water,black pepper, and Mrs Dash , a bit of salt and WOW it was superb let it simmer all day ant it fell apart and the flavor was wonderful.
I will have more neck roast for sure in the future thanks for feed back i am glad I tried it !

Yep, I've made a few of them in the slow cooker before, and they have always turned out excellent! Good to hear you are happy with yours! :)
