O.T. has anyone tried the work shop knife sharpener?

Check out the Harbor Freight 1 x 30 belt sander Item number 60543. Several videos on You Tube about using it to sharpen knifes. I use one and my knifes have never been so sharp so fast!!

Do a web search on using it to sharpen knifes for complete information.

You do have to buy a few belts of different grits to use with it.

A good wet stone will sharpen just about any knife, just have patience to do the job right! A lot cheaper too without sanding away too much of the blade trying to get an edge! Good luck!

I have been sharpening knives for a long time.
I only use the work sharp now.

It’s a bit of a learning curve but once you get the hang of it.... works great.
There was a thread here a year or so ago and I think Newbie told about his and a lot of ppl bought them.

Absolutely agree....and the above mentioned thread is where Newbie actually earned his nickname 'Troublemaker'. I prefer the Ken Onion edition of the worksharp with the slightly wider belt. They work great. Follow the instructions and practice with any crappy old knives you may have. I love mine.

Yup, after years of doing it the hard way, I switched to the stay sharp. Wont ever go back neither.

My cousin is a well known custom knife maker who also designs knives for SPYDERCO and attends " Shotshow " in Las Vegas every year as a member of their factory rep. crew. ( both stateside and in Europe. )

I asked him recently what he thought about this new type sharpener and he has only praise for the " work shop " sharpener.. I'ts very, very close to what he has used professionally when putting that final finish on his edge ( and then follows it up with a polishing belt with jewlers rouge as a final touch. )

I'll be picking one up in the near future.

One thing to keep in mind is that there is a difference between sharpening and keeping sharp. You can keep a sharp knife sharp for a long time without having to sharpen. If you let it go dull, you have to sharpen it which is time consuming. Keeping a blade sharp takes seconds.
I use the Spyderco Make Sharp to sharpen a dull knife and one of those mini ceramic sharpeners to keep them sharp. It's a super easy to use sharpener.
Last year, I skinned and deboned a moose and a mulie without having to sharpen but using the mini ceramic to touch up the blade every 10 minutes or so. The knife was a D2 bladed Bench Made.

I have a work sharp (among several other sharpeners) and it works great. Once you get a knife sharp I only use the finest belt and about 5 strokes per side and I'm good to go again. And by that I mean I can shave my arm hair with it. But it does take some practice as you can burn the tip off of a knife pretty quickly

X2 on the ceramic sticks. I have a set and a similar set that is diamond. Diamond takes a little more, a little quicker. If it's bad full, I get the Lansky out . After this the other two will keep you good for a WHILE! ( and there is zero chance of an ooops)

I don't cut through the brisket. I reach up and cut the windpipe and open the throat for cooling.

For deer I also skin from the head down. This keeps the hair off the meat..

I too have been very happy with the replacement blade knives l have cut thru some pretty tough stuff and still sharp. I made fun of a friend buying one. lm old school....but after trying it l love the convince. We use replacement broadhead blades whats the difference.
