I've seen a flashlight type device that you can use to follow a blood trail. Have any of you used these, which ones, and can these be made somehow.

I just bought a Surefire L2 flashlight and purchased the red and blue flip-up filters. Red is supposed to be non game scaring and blue is supposed to make blood stand out for easier trailing at night. Great flashlight but I haven't had a chance to check out the filters yet. I'll let you know how they work as our early muzzleloader season is this coming Thurs., Fri., Sat.

I bought an expensive UV flash light, but I guess it is the wrong wave length or something because it doesn't help. I tried a blue filter on my Maglight, and it doesn't help.

The fellows who do a lot of night tracking tell me the best thing is a Coleman naptha burning light.

I can't seem to find one of these in the stores now. The stores all seem to be carrying the propane lanterns or the battery one...Try re-charging a batteries from a pine tree.

I hate to say this but I do know that they are in the LeBaron catalog & I believe the are also in the Canadian Tire catalog so you can get them through them but they are just as expensive as the propane version.

Thankfully I still have my 35 year old one that still works good.

You might also want to check ebay as I have seen many on there.

I have been in 3 CanTire stores over the weekend...None there. Guess I'll try LeBaron. I have a propane one but there's something about the "smell of naptha in the morning". Thanks for the heads up.

most of the specialty outdoors type shops will have the naptha lights

Hey you might want to try this :

I use a million candlewatt light from Canadian Tire ( with a white bulb ). I power it with one of the portable 12 volt power packs in a knapsack and it will run on a fully charged pack for 4 + hours. I have recovered every deer since I went to this light for trailing. The whole rig will run you about 100$, but it has many more uses than just hunting.
