Finally did it!!!!!
This morning I finally connected and made a good shot!
I went back to the same spot where I had the doe within 4 yards of me, and very slowly started still-hunting my way into the bush.I think I went 30 yards from the canoe when I thought I heard something. Sounded like something moving, and heard what sounded like a snort but more faint. So I knelt down in a position that offered me a couple of shooting lanes, in different directions. A couple minutes passed and I saw a doe heading towards one of those shooting lanes. As she was getting near where I could shoot she spotted me crouched down. She faced me head on, at which point I had flash backs to last year and I knew I would never shoot at a deer like that again. I remained motionless. She eased up and started walking at first towards me than turned broadside. Once she passed a small diameter tree she stopped and offered me a slightly quartering towards shot. I put the crosshairs just behind her shoulder and let'er loose. She whirled and ran off, but as she took off I could see the exit wound. Almost appeared too far back, like I might have went through the gut on the way out.
I watched her run and was pretty certain I heard her crash. I paddled back to my van, gave Ecoaster a call, and then went to look for my deer. The blood trail was easy to follow. She travelled about 40-50 yards. It turns out that my arrow did not hit gut. Took out both lungs and judging by the amount of blood and the shot placement probably the aorta. It was a 14 yard shot, complete pass through(as expected). But now I am down to 2 Camlocks , as I could not find the arrow(probably buried in the soft ground).
Man I'm happy!
Thanks to Ecoaster for your help today! He helped me drag, field dress, skin and butcher the deer. Not to mention he threw her in the back of his pick-up so I didn't wind up with blood stained carpet in my van. I hope to repay the good deeds real soon.
I hope to post some pics, but it may take awhile, I used my sisters camera. Once they are developed I will put them on disc and attempt to post them here.
