successfull archery moose hunt
On Wednesday Oct. 13th lonewolf, myself and 2 buddies left Ottawa to go moose hunting in wmu 65. We arrived at our camp site at 1:30 pm. On Thursday we drove down to the area where we were going to set up our tree stands. We already had our spots picked out for our tree stands. In mid September we had cleared out some shooting lanes. While getting ready to set up our tree stands I happened to look down the road approximately 250 yards away a moose was walking down the road towards us. I alerted the guys and we all watched the moose walking down the road towards us. After walking down the road about 60 yards or so the moose headed into the bush. That night sitting around the campfire all of us were anticipating the opening of moose season especially after seeing a moose the day before. By 10:00 pm we all hit the sack has 3:00 am came early. Opening morning on our way in to our stands at 5:00 am lonewolf and I jumped a moose but never saw any that day. The same for the next 2 days no moose were spotted however we saw all kinds of fresh tracks. On Monday after the morning hunt at the trucks Bill told us he saw a calf about 100 yards away crossing a beaver dam. That afternoon nothing was seen or heard. On Tuesday morning after the hunt we decided to have lunch at camp. As we approached our camp site the lady that owns the property where we are camped saw us coming she came out of her house and told us " I dont know why you guys hunt down there when there's moose right here" she told us a cow moose had walked right down the road. At that time her husband came out and told us the cow had walked right by our camper and he put a marker by the track. Sure enough the cow had walked right by my truck and 3 yards away from the camper . That afternoon we saw nothing. On Wednesday afternoon lonewolf contacted Bill, Bruce and myself on our motorolas to tell us he had just shot a yearling bull and he needed us to help him track it. We started to follow the blood trail the bull had gone 100 yards before expiring. We all congradulated lonewolf shook hands with one another We had about 2 hours of daylight left we knew we had lots of work ahead of us however it was work none of us minded doing at all. We were back at our trucks by 8:00 pm with the bull loaded on the trailer. Lonewolf's big bear 400 atv got right to the site where the bull had expired. We tied a rope around the bull's antlers and winched the moose right out to the trail. Once on the trail we tied the moose's head on the rack behind the big bear and took it right out to our trucks. We had the young bull out and in the trailer by 8:00pm. We were back at camp with the young bull hanging by 9:15, afterwards we sat around the campfire had a few beers to celebrate a successfull moose hunt. The next day we decided to skin the moose and bring it to the butcher's to hang as it was suppose to get warm that afternoon. The set up lonewolf was using was the exomax with 125 slick tricks with beaman thunderbolts.

CONGRATS to you guy's. WOW, yet another swamp donkey taken with a excalibur. What a great season for moose hunting so far. LETS SEE THE PICTURES PLEASE. How did Lonewolf get the moose? Did he call it in? How far was the shot? Sorry for all the questions, but I like to here as much moose stories I can.
