Slow Season but Decent Video!

Post by drkeenan »

Season a bit of a disappointment. I won't bore you with the details however I missed most of the rut because my beautiful wife had hip surgery. Although I've been hunting hard since I've only seen two deer. One at last light which ended in a shot deflecting off a branch and embedding in a tree. (Too dark to see the branch) The second ended in a successful shot however I originally believed it was a clean miss because the deer walked calmly away from me with no visible exit wound or blood. (See video below) I hope you all had a successful season.

Thanks. The rock was fine however the Spitfire was rendered useless. A real shame considering I've used to kill 6 other deer.

Thanks. True however I rarely see the kick live. I'm not sure if it is because of the adrenaline rush but I find it difficult to visualize the shot immediately after. Because the deer walked past me so closely (5 YDS) I could see no exit wound because of the steep angle. And there was no blood so I had myself convinced that it was a miss. I texted a friend to confess my failing but he convinced me that there was no way I could completely miss at 20 yds. (seated and braced) After 20 minutes I climbed down to find the bloody arrow and then walked in the direction the deer had gone. Although there was very little blood he was laying in a creek about 50 yds from where the arrow went thru him.

Never seen a deer react this way after a double lung hit but I guess if you hunt long enough you see everything.
