Crossbow and black bears

Post by ChrisK »

I went after them in Idaho last year in September. My hunt was a real bust. Outfitter was not what I would call steller. In short we got screwed. I do have a good moose story though from the hunt.
Is my new Bulldog 330 a good tool for hunting bears? In a year or two I plan to try and go back after them.

I got a nice one with my slow Micro 315. Complete passthrougj with a nice blood trail and a bear at the end of it. Your 330 is over kill.. Lol.

I bought a 350 for my first black bear hunt. Guys here and else where said I'd be good with it and my Hawke xb30 and boltcutter combo. Best of luck to you

I'm going in June with my Micro 335, and a 425 grain arrow with Ramcat 125s. This setup has been blessed by Big John so I'm good!!! :eusa-dance:

Arrow that took the bison in my avatar was around 500gr, same BH. Complete passthrough at 30 yds.

I'd think if you have a decently heavy arrow you will be in good shape.

Should I get my passport or just stay in lower 48? After tags and everything(tags, taxes and licenses I wasted $2800, then another $200 for gas and $110 for a hotel room we split because we drove almost straight thru but stopped in Rapid city, South Dakota for a night. I wanted to see Mt. Rushmore. Food at the camp sucked, water was pretty much rationed, had to provide our transportation because of their vehicles being broke down and just not having the hunt we had talked to the outfitter we went with. It was very dissappointing. I think I could of spent a whole lot less and been taken care of a whole lot better and had a whole lot better time.

For black bears there are some very good outfitters either side of the border . I still think the best advertising for them is word of mouth and if they are repeat customers . :)
I took my bear with a very slow by todays standards Wolverine . Maybe with the wind on my back going 240-250 . Got a complete pass through .
Best of luck

I need to start applying for a bear tag.
We have way too many bear on our 240 acres.
Four different ones right behind my cabin last year, and one morning I woke up and found my box of deer apples empty that were sitting against the back of my cabin
