Breaking nocks

Post by XB I GO »

I am shooting Black Eagle Zombie Slayers. They come with flat yellow inserts that are some sort of plastic. I am shooting these out of an Axiom with factory string. Most of the nocks have a little black line on them now. Some are chipped and one is outright cracked.

What is the black line from?
What could be chipping/cracking the nocks? Is there a replacement nock that is better or can I get a replacement of these?

Thank you

Could the black line be from your serving dye does it wipe off or is it like a stress mark extending into the nock.
I would not shoot any suspect bolts,

The line is probably from the arrow channel. Broken and chipped are maybe from shooting too close to another arrow shot to shot.

I usually order all my Black Eagle arrows and accessories from them directly you can get new plastic ones or they sell flat aluminum nocks I’ve used both. I think it’s all a matter of personal preference I’ve had good results with both. I’ve noticed chipping on my nocks before but for me it’s been from my field tips hitting them I’ve still used them unless they were sharp where there might be a chance of cutting my string if so I just pull em and put new nocks in.

Are the black marks on the back of the nock or along the side of it? If along the side it would be from the arrow channel I think.

If it's actual damage and not from a down range collision, it's likely because the arrow isn't fully seated. If that is in fact the case, take a good hard look at the shaft near the nock for splits. Splits or cracks can ruin your day/week/month/year/your life. Be very careful.
I can send you a bunch if you want, just send me a PM.

The little black line is on the side of the nock.
I still am not sure why the chipping and cracks. We are pretty careful to get the bolt up against the string but I will be double-checking from now on. I don't see any shaft damage.

Part of your regular maintenance schedule should include inspecting your aluminum and plastic rear inserts for chips and cracks.

REPLACE any nock that does no pass inspection or risk a failure of sorts that may potentially damage your equipment or risk injury.

Your nocks transfer huge amounts of energy and will perform as expected when in 100% condition.

Shooting tight groups often can produce nicked nocks, I might add.

None of the nocks are round. They’re all ate up a little.

Oops, got in trouble for rolling the bolts around on the countertop. Might have to check back in with you tomorrow!

It looks like you were shooting groups (one spot for multiple arrows).

Hmmm...are you placing the orange fletching in the down position? I see the same mark in the same position or orientation.
